Fall is a busy time of year for people who grow their own fruit or nuts. At Stark Bro’s, we recommend that you take a moment to enjoy all the work you’re doing by turning your harvests into delicious, seasonal snacks — like caramel apples!
Making your own caramel apples can be an elaborate event. Some enjoy making the caramel from scratch and harvesting apples and all the toppings, like almonds, pecans, walnuts and more, from trees in their own backyard. This kind of process can be a fun and meaningful annual tradition for the whole family.
We were looking for something a bit simpler, so we bought our caramel pre-made. We then hand dipped our apples in the caramel and topped them with tasty complementary nuts. Here’s what we found:
Our snack time is almost over, but before we go, we want to see what kind of caramel apple tips you have for us!
What apples are your favorites to coat in caramel and which extras do you like to top them off with?
Hi Sarah, that looks tasty. I’m so looking foward to next year when my 2011 Stark Bros fruit trees really start to fruiting. I should get a lot of apples, peaches and plums baring crazy weather of course.
Is Stark Bros going to list down home fruit recipies on their site? I think it would be a great idea.
Thanks, John R..
We are hoping to share more recipes and activities like this in the future, John! Feel free to share any home fruit recipes you might discover once your trees are in production there. We encourage and welcome all things delicious!
I have some fantastic crabapples, don’t know what the breed is, but they’re amazing. We make them into tiny caramel apples and dip them with bamboo skewers. Also, crabapples make a great “bobbing for apples” size. If you tell children that they’re like lemonhead candy, or starburst, and that the person who can eat the most without making a sour face will win a prize, it gets them interested in these little treasures!
That’s a cute and clever story Riata! I never considered using crabapples for the “bobbing for apples” activity, but I certainly am now.
