Description

Attractive and ripens early! Vigorous, easy-to-grow tree bears crops of medium to large fruit for fresh-eating, baking, and sauces. Fruit features red-orange stripes over pale-yellow skin and a creamy flesh. Antique variety, originates from Russia, circa 18th century. Often simply shortened to Duchess. Cold-hardy. Ripens in August. Best pollinators: any Golden Delicious, Cortland, or Cripps Pink.

BEST ANSWER: For an antique apple variety, it doesn't have any known outstanding disease issues. It's fairly easy (and rewarding) to grow!

this is the first year for the dutchess and of course i haven't had the pleasure of tasting her fruit, but i tell you she's not only a keeper, i'm buying her sister this year! my search for apple cedar rust resistant trees has been answered yet again...

Darn it!
I really liked this apple tree, it was growing really well, until the gophers ate the roots and killed it. yes, I would definitely get this again.
