Love the Machintosh . Will take a chance to see if this can be successful in the Portland ,OR. / cool winters , mild summers and a lot of rain from Nov. to March.
Chose the disease resistant variety to give it the best shot at surviving and thriving.

MacFree Apple
MacFree apple was received in May 2014 barerooted and began growing immediately after planting. Now after only 2 years it set some fruit, which was removed to allow the tree to grow this spring and it continues growing at a fast pace as have the other 3 mature apple trees (Jonafree, Honey Crisp and Enterprise)I purchased from Starkbros.

MacFree Apple
We had Macfree on our farm and had a huge harvest of apples without any kind of spray. Three summers ago we moved and started another Macfree. On its third summer it has Apple blossoms! They are s great producer of juicy, sweet apples with no spray!

Hardy
Year 1 - grew to about 5 feet
Year 1 winter - rabbit damage killed the main trunk
Year 2 - came out from just above graft. Due to roots established from year 1, grew to just over 6 feet
Year 3 - no blossoms but looks good. Might get some fruit next year.

seems healthy, still maturing
My MacFree Apple semi-dwarf tree arrived carefully-packed in early spring. I had the garden spot ready for it and put it right in the ground, and within a few months noticed signs of growth. A year later, it has branched out well and is growing in height and width, but it's still early. I don't expect to get fruit for a few years yet, so am not really in a position to rate the tree for the quality of its fruit or productivity. For delivery, though, Stark does a good job.
