Description

Vigorous and consistently productive. Spreading growth habit makes for an attractive shade tree in the landscape. Attractive white catkins in spring followed by numerous chestnut-containing burs. Shucks split open when nuts are ripe, containing 1-3 dark brown nuts. Averages 20-30 nuts per pound. Peels easily and has sweet flavor. Stores well. Known-parent seedling. Chinese chestnut. Disease-resistant to chestnut blight. Cold-hardy. Ripens in October. For proper pollination, plant two selected seedlings or a grafted chestnut variety.
