Luther Burbank (1849-1926), was an American plant breeder with over 50 years experience developing renowned plant varieties — many of which are still used today. These outstanding varieties were developed by the famed plant wizard, Luther Burbank.
Heralded as a pioneer in agricultural science, Burbank is responsible for varieties like the popular Burbank™ July Elberta Peach and the heat-tolerant Santa Rosa Plum. Burbank practiced methods of grafting and natural plant breeding (through cross-pollination and selection) to develop his highly regarded varieties. His endeavors included fruit trees, nut trees, and berry plants, as well as several types of vegetable plants and ornamentals.
