Stark Bro's Store
These perennials are the most reliable, weather proof, hail proof, frost proof, in my garden, so it is fun to have more varieties.

My zone, assortment, Stark Bro's Quality & I know if I need the rhubarb replaced for any reason they will be.

Growing like crazy!
The asparagus was a little slow starting, it has taken off this spring. Anxiously waiting until we can harvest!
Unfortunately neither of the rhubarb never sprouted.

Tender and flavorful
Got these plants on time and planted according to directions. Asparagus is coming up and are very tender and good. Rhubarb is dark red but seems to be growing slower than other rhubarb I have grown but still good.

Mixed Results
I was excited to be able to order two of my favorites together.

Everything was shipped bare root and dormant and I planted them according to directions with the exception that I crowded the Asparagus just slightly.

All of the plants came up the first year and about half came back last year. The same number came back this year and were pushing through the soil early before the end of February and a few spears were lost to freezes after that point. Some of the Purple Passion are really prolific and some are not... The same with the Jersey Knight, only less so.

The Rhubarb roots were nice and big. One sent up one leaf and died, The other never sprouted and when I dug it up to see if it was viable it was as light as cork and pretty much crumbled in my hand. I hate to say it but I ended up replacing them with plants from another nursery.

I have always had decent success with plants from Stark's and I'm sure I will again. I just didn't have overwhelming success with these.

happy with asparagus-not happy with rhurbarb
18 of our 20 asparagus plants came up this year (2016) (planted spring 2015)
Our family can't wait til next year to harvest some. Unfortunately, non of our rhurbarb came back up this spring (2016). Last year when we planted it only 1 plant came up. I transplanted in 2015 another rhurbarb plant that I already had into the same area & it is doing fine.

Stark Asparagus Assortment
The asparagus is wonderful,, we were able to use some this year, It is really good, nice big stalks. The rhubarb did not survive the summer heat, I think our soil was poor and we are trying to get it built up. will try again next year/ Yes I would recommend the asparagus and the rhubarb. Just be sure to use lots of good compost, and protect from the hot Az sun in the afternoon..

Stark Asparagus Rhubarb Plant Assortment
The asparagus were great, I got them a couple years ago and we harvested our first small batch this year. The ones we left to grow are now over six feet. The rhubarb however was not so good. When we got them and planted them they rotted out I. The ground. We contacted stark and they senrt us new ones and they did the same. We didn't bother with it after that. I've since started some from seed and they are coming along well. Asparagus, great, rhubarb, not so much.

SD Mixed Reviews
We ordered the same special a year ago, only 4 asparagus plants survived. The weather in SD is down right unpredictable. We ordered this combo late May, immediately got hit with high temps and very dry. This year we ordered in late April. Plants arrived in great condition. Freezing temps kept their planting until mid-May. Cold and wet. This year we have some success with 2 StarkCrimson Rhubarb and 1 Valentine growing. The Asparagus, Jersey Knight was 100 % with 90% on the Purple Passion. I think watering may be our issue here. We went from cold and damp to hot and dry in less than 1 week!!!
Anything trying to grow in SD, pay attention to the dryness of the soil. We had 3 weeks of once per week severe storms including hail. Over 3 inches of rain, and a lot of wind. No rain in between....ground dries out big time very quickly. We managed to keep things watered...The results are very good!!!

Results after 1 year.
3-4 asparagus plants came up this spring. My experience asparagus plants should thicken next few years.

No rhubarb came up this year.

Both in dedicated beds.
