Loquat Trees

Loquat Trees Buyer's Guide

Loquats, scientifically known as Eriobotrya japonica, are small to medium-sized evergreen trees that thrive in subtropical and mild temperate climates.

These versatile trees produce fruits typically round or pear-shaped, with a yellow to orange color when ripe. Loquat fruits are known for their sweet and tangy flavor, reminiscent of a blend between peach and citrus. Enjoy their sweet and tangy flavor straight from the tree or use them to make jams, jellies, and desserts. Loquats are low-maintenance and offer health benefits, such as being rich in vitamins A and C. With a little care, you’ll soon be harvesting your own delicious loquats!

To ensure your growing success and satisfaction, there are a few things to consider when you buy a Loquat tree.

Zone Compatibility

Your climate plays an important role in whether a Loquat tree will produce fruit or even survive. Loquat trees prefer warmer climates. Most varieties grow well from zone 7-10. Before ordering, be sure a particular variety’s recommended hardiness zone range includes your area.

Mature Tree Size

Make sure you pick the right size tree for your space. When our Loquat trees mature they will be 20-25’ tall, depending on variety.

Additional Growing Information

Loquat trees grow well in a range of well-drained soils, from fertile loamy soils to clay to gravelly limestone-based soils. Loquat trees are not tolerant of flooded soil conditions.

Loquat trees are wind tolerant and normally pollinated by bees. Loquats are very disease resistant and typically are only slightly bothered disease or by Fire Blight.
