Growing your own pecan tree is an affordable way to bring beauty to your landscape and to enjoy nuts that will enhance the flavor of your food, while providing important nutrients for your diet. When these stately trees mature, they can also function as shade trees, protecting you from the elements and helping to keep energy costs down. They are productive (especially in locations with warm summers), giving you bushels of flavorful pecans that are ultimately much less expensive than those sold at the grocery store. They are perfect for eating as tasty snacks or making delicious pies, pralines or cookies. And they’re healthy — pecans are an excellent natural source of antioxidants, protein, unsaturated fats and more. And, since pecan trees can continue to bear nuts for hundreds of years, these homegrown treats can be enjoyed for generations.
Enter your zip code to find your hardiness zone, see which trees and plants are best suited for your area, and learn your next ideal planting time.
To ensure your growing success and satisfaction, there are a few things to consider when you buy a pecan tree.
Your climate plays an important role in whether a tree will produce nuts or even survive. Before ordering any tree, make sure its recommended hardiness zone range includes your area.
Pollination by a different variety is key to the success of many pecan trees. Most of our pecan trees require pollination by a compatible variety for successful growth and production. Inadequate pollination is a common reason why some pecan trees produce poorly or don’t bear nuts at all. Make sure you check our descriptions to see which pollinating varieties our experts recommend.
We do grow some self-pollinating pecan trees, which are ideal if you don’t have enough growing space to plant a second variety. If you do have room, we always recommend planting another compatible variety for optimum pecan production.
Most of our pecan trees are shipped to you in our exclusive EZ Start® bottomless pots. When shipped to you, the trees will be approximately 1-2' tall. These containers allow some roots to be air pruned as they grow out the bottom, so that a dense mass of productive feeder roots can grow within the pot to make transplanting and establishing easier and quicker. These feeder roots also help to accelerate growth rates and induce earlier nuts.
To give you a head start on growing pecan trees, we offer upgrades called Select EZ Start® potted trees for most of our varieties. When shipped to you, these top-grade selections will be somewhat larger — approximately 3-4' tall.

I'm very excited to announce that after 75 years, Miller Nurseries will now become part of Stark Bro's, a highly respected nursery company that's been "growing" their famous legacy since 1816.
For nearly 200 years, Stark Bro's has been producing high-quality fruit trees, berries and garden plants for gardeners like you. With their great nursery stock and expert advice, they've been helping generations of families reap not only the rewards of growing their own fruits and nuts, but to enjoy huge savings in the process. Stark Bro's has a long-standing reputation for quality, honesty and really taking care of their customers.
When my brother David passed away suddenly last spring, I knew it was time to retire. One of the first things I did was to call Cameron Brown, the president of Stark Bro's. He is a long-time friend and a very trustworthy fellow, and treats his customers like gold. I knew he would take care of you in exactly the same way. David would have liked this arrangement, and I take comfort in that.
It's only going to get better as part of the Stark Bro's family. You'll now be able to come here to StarkBros.com and sign in with your existing username and password, and purchase products just like you did on the Miller Nurseries website... only the selection will be much larger! You'll still be able to buy Miller's familiar "Canandaigua Quality" hardy plants as well as the enormous assortment of trees and plants Stark Bro's offers.
We want to take this opportunity to acknowledge our family, our wonderful employees, and especially you - our loyal customers - for your support and patronage over these last 75 years. Thank you for being such an important part of our heritage.
John Miller, CEO
