Item #H16984, 1.4 Pound Brick

Description

Enhance your soil. Use this expandable brick of all-natural coconut fiber (coir) to improve your soil, making it easy for plants to stretch out their root systems. Loosens hard clay soil and adds water-retaining fibers to sandy soil. Resists compacting and remains porous for air circulation — the perfect, sterile growing medium. Made from coconut husks. Expands to nearly 2 gallons when you add 1 1/5 gallons of lukewarm water. Each brick breaks down into enough coir medium for approximately 4 trees.

Why did you choose this?
Stark Bro's Store
use it mixed with vermiculite as bedding for worm composting

I have a lot of heavy clay soil and I found that this product really helps keep the soil from re-compacting after planting. The peach tree I used it on is twice the size of the one I didn't. In addition I use leaf compost and ground tree mulch from the city and incorporate that as well to establish water and air channels.

This is fantastic for pots and for the newly planted trees and roses in my clay soil. I'm in Indiana, and these blocks work better than sand at breaking up the clay and allowing the roots to grow. Good stuff.

I have used it before, and it is excellent for the soil.

We have clay soil and it tends to be wet. Hoping this will give the trees we plan to plant, a good start.

Does this smell sweet like Coconut or does it smell like hay?
Teresa F on Apr 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I actually didn't notice a smell at all. But if you really try hard, you can determine a faint hay/straw smell. But again I had to really try to even notice.

First But Certainly Not Last
This was the first time I had ordered the cocofiber. It will not be the last! I love this stuff. It hydrates quickly, mixes with the soil well and very easy to use. I used one brick for every two trees. The trees must like it too because the are leafing out.
