Stark® Surecrop™ Pecan Tree
Description
Protogynous Type II
About the Stark® Surecrop™ Pecan Tree (Type II)
The Stark® Surecrop™ Pecan Tree lives up to its name with remarkably consistent, heavy yields year after year. This Stark Exclusive was discovered in Illinois and introduced by Stark Bro’s in 1970 after proving its ability to perform in a wide range of conditions, including surviving a record-breaking freeze of –18°F.
Surecrop™ produces large, thin-shelled “papershell” pecans that crack easily and deliver excellent flavor. The well-filled kernels are ideal for fresh eating, baking, and homemade pies. Mature trees average about 58 nuts per pound and are known for dependable annual production once established.
This grafted pecan is both cold-hardy and heat-tolerant, making it a reliable choice for growers in the southern half of Zone 5 and beyond. Nuts ripen in mid to late October, extending the pecan harvest season.
Stark® Surecrop™ is a Type II (protogynous) pecan with early pistil receptivity and mid-season pollen shed. While it is considered self-pollinating, planting it alongside a compatible Type I pecan will significantly increase yields and nut quality, see recommended pollinators below.
