How close to my house can I plant the weeping cherry and how long will it take to be at least 5 ft tall?
connie b on Apr 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We planted ours in 2013 four foot' from the corner of the house. It is now about 3' in diameter and it came in the mail about 3' tall. It is now 6' three years later. The only trimming is the branches are on the ground as the picture shows after the 2nd year. So, 3 years it should be 5 feet tall. When we planted, we did put two or three small round fertilizer tablets about 3-4 inches deeper than the roots to give the tree a good start. And we watered the tree the first year with at least 5 gallons twice a week. And if it is windy (if you live in the country like we do) staking it for the first 2 years is a must.
Can these trees be pruned to the size desired?
Lorie H on May 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Lorie - Realize that the tree you are asking about has distinctive growth characteristics that make it the tree that you want in the 1st place. If you want to alter its height, the terminal shoot(s) at the top that create the vertical growth / height should not be cut or trimmed off. As for trimming the lateral branches, the very essence of the Prunus 'Snofozam' SNOW FOUNTAINS weeping cherry is reflected by its dense foliage in bloom and in branch / leaf density. You can trim back these branches, thus reducing its density and diminishing its overall appearance - the attribute for which it is valued as a unique landscape tree.

Snow mountain weeping cherry
It is a gorgeous tree. We have had to stake it the first year. This is our 2nd one. The first one the deer ate and hurt it bad. We had to replace it. It is doing well, we've had to put a cage around it. I am hoping this summer I can pull the wire netting away and remove stake.

Snow Fountains Weeping Cherry
Ordered the weeping cherry last spring. I was very pleased with the shape and the overall condition of the tree. It arrived potted and staked. I planted it with the stake in a sunny location. It bloomed this year and is filling in nicely.

Snow Fountain Weeping Cherry Tree
I received the 2 ft. weeping Snow Fountain Cherry start and planted as advised. It has more branches now, bloomed in the spring and is very pretty already. However, my concern is if it will grow as tall as stated since the tree start came with the leader tree trunk branch cut off at the top. That top has a 2" dead look and the rest of the tree looks healthy and so pretty. I wonder if the tree will only stay about 2 ft or if it grows from the ground up and not from the leader top? Maybe, I'll only have a 2 ft tree for ever, but it is sure pretty. I don't have knowledge of if the tree will gain in height now or not. I'm satisfied with the beauty already. It appears healthy.
