200 Years and Growing: Stark Bro's History Highlights Museum's Fall Dinner

Louisiana, MO (October 20, 2015) — Judge James Hart Stark knows a lot of history about Stark Bro's Nurseries & Orchards Co. After all, he started the world-renowned fruit tree nursery nearly 200 years ago, which makes him more than 220 years old. But never fear, Stark is alive and well, ready to share his story of how he came to settle in Eastern Missouri and start the namesake company that is still going strong today. Judge Stark, along with Stark Bro's President and owner Cameron Brown and Chief Marketing Officer Ken Lane, will provide the program at the Louisiana Area Historical Museum Fall Dinner to be held Thursday, November 12, 2015. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post 370, 420 Kelly Lane, Louisiana, MO. According to Judy Schmidt, president of the LAHM, the annual dinner and program are more than a major fundraiser for the non-profit organization. "This is an evening when we can we bring history to life for our community, which is what our museum is all about. It is also an opportunity for us to recognize those who work hard to promote the museum and preserve the history of this community for all to enjoy," says Schmidt. A key historical event that will occur in Louisiana, MO in 2016 is the 200th anniversary of Stark Bro's Nurseries & Orchards Co. "This marks a milestone no other business in Louisiana has achieved," says Lane. "We're extremely proud of this achievement and we want to celebrate by sharing our heritage with our local community, which has played a vital role in Stark Bro's still being in business today." Schmidt concurs, saying, "The Louisiana Area Historical Museum is delighted to help Stark Bro's kick off its bi-centennial celebration ... We know the attendees will enjoy hearing Judge Stark share his story about the nursery and learning about some of the company's plans for the next 200 years." The event will also feature the limited pre-sale of a new hardcover book about the Stark family business, entitled "200 Years and Growing: The Story of Stark Bro's Nurseries and Orchards Co." It traces the history of the family and the nurseries from the 1700s until today. To benefit the Museum, Stark Bro's will donate $5 from the sale of each autographed book. Tickets for the fundraising dinner are $25 per person. They may be purchased from the LAHM board members: Linda Beer, Randall Cone, Sally Cropp, Jean Eastman, Ned Glenn, Trent Meyers, John Murray, Ann Narramore, Mary Perkins, Charlotte Perrine, Judy Schmidt, Martha Sue Smith, Jerry Smith, Juanita Thomas, Barry Trost and Dorothy Webb. Tickets are also available at the Louisiana Public Library, 121 N. 3rd Street.
