Description

Early coloring and early harvests, the Starkspur® Red Delicious tree is improved in terms of production compared to other Delicious apple varieties.

Expect a bountiful harvest of picture-perfect, red apples. 100% blushed with white flesh, you’ll enjoy baking, canning, and eating the fruit fresh. This apple variety ripens early, allowing Starkspur® to be harvested before other Red Delicious varieties.

This is a spur-bearing tree which means increased fruit-bearing spurs form a higher portion of spurs and fewer lateral shoots than occur with standard growth habits. This provides the tree a more open canopy and compact growth habit than standard trees. To assure good young and annual production, it should be thinned and spread.

The Starkspur® Red Delicious bears very young and requires another variety for proper pollination.

Is the starkspur red delicious a good pollinator for honeycrisp apple trees? Or is whitney crab better ?

All 3 variaties will work as they have same bloom times so it is a matter of preference.

Are your starkspur red delicious apples trees heirloom trees?
It is the only Apple I like, unfortunately the local grocery stores are selling some sweetened gmo apples lately and I can’t stand the tast of all that sugar, especially what it does to the liver and cause of cancer.

To best of my knowledge this is not an heirloom variety as it is a more improved version of other delicious variaties.

Can I buy a tree that is larger maybe 8foot or so?

I am sorry our trees are young and we do not shipp trees of that size.

We have cedar trees on parts of the perimeter of our property. Can this variety survive and generate good quality apples with cedars?

This variety is not resistant to cedar apple rust so it is hard to say for sure if if it will lbe affected or not. i suggest choosing a resistant variety https://www.starkbros.com/search?q=cedar+apple+rust+resistant&showall=true

Can these trees be planted in summer and expected to live?

These are sold as ez start potted trees and are raised in our humid greenhouses and acclimated to outside temps. You should be able to plant with no issues. Just remember do not plant in the heat of the day.

My tree arrived in excellent condition, acclimated and planted according to the instructions. The Starkspur Red Delicious Apple Tree is growing strong and it is very vigorous. This tree is a perfect match for my Starkspur Yellow Delicious Apple Tree. I rate this tree five stars due to the ability to produce a large crop of large high quality apples, strong and vigorous growing tree, hardy to withstand Michigan’s harsh winters and low maintenance.

The trees are not big enough yet to rate the apples. However, they seem to be doing just great. They are still just a little more than a stick, but the leaves look quite good and surviving even with the cold. It has snowed here.

The poor little thing is just a stick. It made it through the summer and now has a few leaves at the very top. I live in Montana and we just had our first snow. I’m hoping it will make it through our cold temps. I have great hopes.
