I know they’re good apricots

Zone 4

I wanted an apricot tree that would taste well for fresh eating and do well in self pollination.

My other Apricot tree isn't producing fruit. Hoping another Apricot tree will help.

Have a moonpark apricot I planted 3 years ago now. Have some sort of issue. All the leaves wilted and are now brown and dropping. This happened one section at a time. This started last year. The tree budded, blossomed, froze, but leaved out fine. Same spray regiment as the peaches, plums, etc... This year, had fixed copper, dormant oil, captan and imidan so far. No sign of black knot, see no sign of fungus issues, no borer signs. Only other possibility is, it is planted where there was black and carpathian walnuts. Tannic acid maybe??? Possibly ants??? Everything else is doing great. We have had lots of rain this year.

Black walnuts are known to have allelopathic effects on many plants and the toxic/growth inhibitor agent(s) reach the soil mostly at the walnuts root growth zone. Leaching from fallen leaves may be suspect as well. If the nearby walnut just recently stretched into your tree's root zone (roots do not only grow to the drip line, but well beyond) then this might explain the initial health with later year's die-off. Check with your county extension or OHIO STATE U. Paula P

what is the bloom time? EARLY? LATE?

Apricot trees will bloom earlier than most other fruit trees, in general. If we're only comparing apricots to apricots, then Moorpark is a mid-to-late blooming variety compared to other apricot varieties.

Just bought a Moorepark apricot. Any special considerations for planting this time of year. I also have dark clay soil:(?

Hi, Pam
Fall is best for planting, since you don't have to water it as much.We placed fish guts in the hole and is about 6 feet tall by now. It is growing like crazy, we had to trim it 4 times already. No fruit yet, we had frost this spring right at the flowering time. So we hope for next spring. Can't wait to taste the fruits. We had our apricot trees before, but sold the house right after we had fruits. Excellent apricots. Since then, we're spoiled, last time we got them at the grocery store had to throw them out, fake apricots.
Wish you good weather,
Adrian

Hi, is the moorpark apricot tree  cold hardy and able to endure late season frost? Also, does it do well in full-partial sun or does it have to have full sun?

It is cold hardy however Apricots bloom early so late frost could possibly be an issue. I recommend reaching out to your county extension to see if growing apricots in your area has been successful. They do require full sun meaning at least 6 hours of direct sunlight is best.

Are these in pots?  Because if they are bareroot I need them in January not May

Currently these are only offered in the bareroot variety. If you would like us to ship your order at a different time, please contact our Customer Support Team at 800.325.4180. We would be glad to help you arrange what suits you and your growing zone best.

Is the Harcot or Moorpark freestones?

They are both freestone variaties.

Is this tree grafted, or is it grown from seed?

This tree is grafted. If you want more information about grafted trees please read our article, The Science of Grafted Fruit Trees: http://www.starkbros.com/growing-guide/article/science-of-grafting

Does this tree send out suckers?

We've had our tree a year. It's been a fast grower with vigorous top growth. No suckers. Unfortunately, we had a really late freeze so no fruit for us this year :(

I am noticing the disease to apricot fruit in June. The apricots get wide black spots. I have three apricot trees Moorpark, Chinese & Blenheim. How I can treat it? What should I use? I am unable to upload the picture.

sounds like a fungus is attacking the tree. Spray the tree with a copper fungicide.

Can you plant 2 of the same type for pollination?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. Apricots are self pollinating and do not require another variety to bear fruit. However planting a second variety will increase your crop yield.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!
