Can the top of Ms Kim lilacs be trimmed without causing an issue to the plant? It???s about 15 years old.
Karl G on Jun 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Whenever you "top" something, you can encourage growth at the top of the plant - not very desirable. If it's getting too big, it's best to prune the entire shrub to keep it proportional.

Home grown Fruit growers Salvation
I live in south western Montana and am retired, so maybe naturally. I took a liking to growing some fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately I do not have the time or energy to grow a lot of I concentrated on some fruits. Namely I planted several varieties of grapes, a honey crisp apple tree, a reliance peach, and a grafted pear tree.
The grape vines I soon learned needed some special attention each year for several years to insure a good and healthy harvest. While searching the internet for information and guidance, I quickly became confused about how to prune them for best appearance and growth That's when Stark Brothers came through with the book "Pruning Made Easy"

I soon learned how to address the pruning issues of when, how and how much to prune and my confidence soared. My vines are all doing well and filling out my arbor in grand fashion.

The apple, peach and pear tree are producing well; in fact I have about three times as many fruits as I think the trees can ripen in this short growing season. The book gives me guidance on what to do about that.

The book is easy to read and has a complete story of what to do, what problems may come up and how to proceed. I would be lost without it.

In fact it even has a chapter on specialty pruning and shaping of ornamental plants. I found that quite helpful with my poodle cut pine tree and shaped the dwarf Austrian pines to add a touch of the unusual to my front yard.
The book is thorough, to the point and accurate. And it covers just about everything about the pruning process for most Trees and other plants as well. This is information you need to know to keep your plants and trees looking their best and growing well.

I highly recommend this book for every home. Thank you Stark Brothers for bringing it into your catalog.

Pruning Made Easy
I didn't learn too much from the book and it is not too well organized! Too, it leaves out some info in the areas I know something about, so it makes me wonder what's missing in others. Generally - not worth the $.

Great pruning right in your garden
This is a great book and tells you all about pruning and maintaining plant and tree health in your garden. I didn't know where to start, but this book makes it so clear and easy to understand with a step by step illustrated guide of how to prune your fruit trees and other plants in the garden. I liked the explanations and illustrations and together they formed a comprehensive how to prune guide even for a beginner gardener like me.

Great Book on Pruning Everything
I have been pruning trees and shrubs for years. In some ways it is a nice refresher course but it also covers many other pruning challenges such as artistic pruning of hedges, bonsai, roots, etc. and the necessary tools. I also love the detailed illustrations. I highly recommend this book to beginners as well as experienced gardeners.
