Description

Li Jujube is the one to plant if you have room for only one tree. This popular variety produces abundant, attractive, very large, mahogany-brown fruit. Sweet, crisp, and flavorful, Li’s fruit is the size and shape of a small egg with a very small, almost unnoticeable seed. Li Jujube matures early, a great benefit in short-growing-season areas.

Often referred as Chinese Date, the tree itself is a lovely landscape specimen with thin shiny leaves and interesting bark. Jujubes ripen in mid-to-late September. The Li Jujube tree is drought resistant and a great variety for warmer climates.

Does the Li Jujube will grow in a bush form like Goji or in a tree form like apple trees?

Did the seller top the tree you bought, I’ve seen them at Walmart with the top chopped off and for a very small tree that is not a great thing to do as the main trunk creates the canopy. When the Jujube is at the height you want maybe those things can be done.

Is Jujube Invasive?

These trees although they get tall are very invasive. They put out shoots from the root system.

can this be planted in a pot ?

Hi! I have 2 in pots until next year when I will plant them at the permanent site. Just be aware that your Jujube trees will probably be only ornamental and difficult to flower or produce fruits. I have many fruit trees in pots. During the cold months, I cover the pots with lots of straw and if the pot isn’t to heavy or big, I open a hole in the ground and cover it with soil and straw. Grafted Jujube trees are not as easy to grow as PawPaws at least here in Michigan.

Is the loquat a Japanese plum tree?

Yes, the Loquat is often referred to as the "Japanese Plum," although the fruit does not in any way resemble what we commonly identify as plums. There is an actual Japanese Plum tree that is not a Loquat, however.

When do I plant a Japanese plum tree. ?

I believe the best time to plant trees and shrubs is in the Fall once the weather cools. This will give the planting time to grow roots before the stress of summer heat and foliage growth begins.

Do you have a small jujube tree that has not been topped off?

On Jujube trees if you cut the top of the tree off, the main trunk it does not continue to grow a nice canopy. These trees should not be topped of or should I say chopped off until they are at the height you wish.

how long will it take to bear fruit?

This is one of the most delicious fruits I have ever tasted. I had this tree in Florida and produced abundant fruits the following year. I moved to Michigan and finally found it again. The tree grows fast and is incredible beautiful!

Can jujube tree be grown in part shade?

Jujube trees (Ziziphus jujuba) prefer full sun to produce the best fruit, but they can tolerate part shade. However, growing a jujube tree in part shade can result in:

Reduced fruit production: While the tree will likely still grow, jujube trees produce more fruit and higher-quality fruit in full sun. Less sunlight can reduce the size and sweetness of the fruit.
Slower growth: The tree may grow more slowly in partial shade compared to a location that receives full sun.
If you have an area with part shade that still receives at least 4-6 hours of sunlight per day, the tree can still grow, but it won’t perform as well as it would in a full-sun location. Ideally, try to plant it where it can get as much sunlight as possible.

Nice looking young tree.
It arrived healthy with lots of deep green leaves and was well packaged for shipment. It's doing well inside a tree tube protecting it from deer. I'm real excited about harvesting dates in the next year or two. I wish I had bought two trees.

Thought it died, but it didn't!
When we first planted our little jujube tree, it didn't do much and in fact, we thought it died. I think we planted it in the summer, and by the time winter came and gone, it looked doomed. We ALMOST dug it up, but decided to leave it alone to see if it would resurrect, and boy are we glad that we did! We started to notice tiny little leaves growing on this dead "stem". Fast forward to the summer and we have a fairly large (compared to what it was) and healthy tree, with lots of fruit! They aren't ripe yet (I think they are supposed to be brown), but we are really looking forward to trying our first jujube when they are ripe.

I ordered a persimmon tree in November 2021, I added this jujube tree in order to receive free shipping. It turned out that the persimmon tree didn't survive over the first winter, this jujube did very well and gave us some large and sweet fruits starting the 1st year and this 2nd year, it is giving us an abundant crop... Although it didn't work out for my persimmon tree but it is worthy to pay for 2 trees to get only this jujube tree. I wish SB will carry more varieties of jujube... Highly recommended!

Weather resistant
My trees arrived in excellent condition. They are tough and made it through the worst drought I have ever seen. I've never eaten a jujube, so time will tell if I like them. I bought them because they sounded tough and I need tough reliable fruit trees able to take extreme weather. Looks like they are that.
