Contorted Jujube Tree
Description
About the Contorted Jujube Tree
A top choice for edible landscapers!
The Contorted Jujube is an interesting ornamental tree with contorted, twisting branches that bear edible fruits referred to as “Chinese Dates”. Originating from Asia, jujube trees are a beautiful option for suburban landscapes. These productive fruit bearing trees require little maintenance, making it an appealing choice for backyard growers and edible landscapers.
Jujube fruits are reddish-brown when ripe. They can be eaten fresh when firm and crunchy like an apple or dried to a date-like, chewy texture and sweet flavor. Fruit is round in shape like the Li Jujube. These unique fruits are high in vitamins and minerals. How to Grow the Contorted Jujube Tree
The Contorted Jujube tree is hardy, drought-resistant, and free of any pest and disease issues. Jujube trees prefer warm climates with long, hot summers. With a low-chill requirement, these trees do well in the Southwest region of the United States, including Texas. These adaptable trees are hardy down to minus 20°, extending their popularity to regions with mild climates, such as the mid-west.
They do not mind partial shade but do need well-drained soil. While most jujube varieties are considered self-fertile, plant two varieties for heavier crops.
Plant the Contorted Jujube for a unique and stunning landscape accent that doubles as an edible!
