Columbia Red Anjou Pear Tree
Description
The very best red pear. Overall thin red skin, which is particularly deep-hued and bright. Keeps better and ripens more slowly than other Anjou varieties because of its lower respiration rate (meaning it emits less ethylene gas). Faintly russetted exterior, with sweet, spicy white flesh inside. It’s been consistently described as firm but tender, with a buttery texture that includes lots of juice. The spring blooms are quite beautiful with their baby-pink color streaked with rose-pink. The fruit matures from late August to mid-September and even beyond. Best pollinators: Bartlett or any other early-blooming European pear. ‘Euwer’ strain.
