26 Questions
Why did you choose this?

I bought this particular plum because fond childhood memories of eating jam made from the fruit.

Memories of a great aunt’s damson plum preserves on homemade rolls.

Love love love these plums!!

The best for jam, and disease and pest resistant.

will the deer like this tree?

Young trees should be encircled with a woven wore fence 5 foot high for about 5 years. Then they'll be too big for the deer to bother. Deer repellent capsules that hang on the tree work well, too, but you have to replace them 3x a year or more.

Is this plum good for eating fresh, or mainly for pies & preserves?

Damson's are a little mushy/mealy for eating out of hand. As you know, they are superb for preserves and tarts. Also very good for wine (if you have a bumper crop).

Is this plum resistant to black knot disease?

I don't know but my previous trees suffered form black knot and eventually died.

How resistant to Black Knot is Damson?

Damson is not known to be resistant to black knot, but it is not highly susceptible either, so you may want to take precaution if black knot is known to be prevalent in your area. If there are already infected trees, they should be removed before planting new trees. Remove and destroy any limbs or other areas on any trees with signs of infection immediately.

how many years till they bear fruit?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. You can find the years-to-bear information in the Characteristics section, near the top of the page, underneath the description. This tree takes 3-6 years to bear.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!

On what rootstock have you grafted this tree?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. We use several different rootstocks, depending upon the desired result and what is available. For that reason, we're unable to guarantee a specific rootstock.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!

If I buy standard size, can I prune it to keep it to more the semi-dwarf size?

Yes you can prune to keep smaller.

Can the seed pit from each damson plum be used to grow Ann other damson plum tree?

It will grow a tree but can not guarantee it to be true to variety

Are the trees grown from seedling?

Our trees are grafted and not grown from a seed.

I am a new having an orchard and looking to plant 4 trees in northern Missouri zone 5b. Any recommendations for two types of plums that will pollinate? Thank you~

Damsons
We planted this tree 4 to 5 years ago and this year I picked a multitude of damson plums! They are beautiful and the tree is healthy. I am organic so the lady bugs were very helpful this year and handling any aphid activity. If you love making preserves, this is the tree!

Robust, vigorous trees!
Fantastic trees! They have branched out beautifully and are healthy and robust. I ordered 6 damson trees from 3 nurseries to compare quality and the trees from Stark brothers outshine the others by orders of magnitude. Thank you!

Stay'n Alive
Damson tree's growing vigorously however the Moorpark apricot has nothing but a small growth a couple inches above the graft union. 90 percent of the top has dried up.

Damson Plum
This plant was absolutely great. It was small but hardy and in less than a year has grown 6 feet tall. The tree is hardy and survived a cold snowy winter here in Pasco, WA. This spring it began to grow and is now over 6 feet tall with 5 0r 6 center branches going straight up.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes plums. I understand it will be a year or more before it is fully productive.

Damson Plum
I would highly recommend a Damson Plum tree. We did have one for years
until it died. Damson make great preserves, a great liqueur (plum flum), and
eating fresh off the tree as well as many other uses.

Very good tree, but there is a local fungus that attacks fruit trees
This is not my 1st Damson Plum. The tree is growing well, but it is in danger of a black fungus that killed the original Damson Plum tree. The county agent said that the fungus is incurable and to destroy the tree, I have done that, but the fungus has attacked other trees in my neighborhood. Do you have any cures for thai black fungus?
