It helps keep my rather large group of male deer from using these trees to rub in the fall. I also use an individual 4x4 fence about 48" high to keep the deer and other critters away from the young trees and mowers.

Everything I have read says to not add any amendments to the growing hole for the tree. Why do you sell a coco fiber brick in your kit?
Basgall R on Mar 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The coco fiber helps loosen hard, clay soil and adds water-retaining fibers to sandy soil. It also resists compacting and remains porous for air circulation, so it is a great, sterile growing medium. If you have been advised not to amend your soil, then you probably don't need the coir brick in your planting holes, but you can still use it as a medium in raised garden beds and other gardening purposes in that case.
Should I get one of these to use with a redbud I'm thinking of ordering, or is it mostly for fruit trees?
Nancy on Apr 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I planted 3 fruit trees last year at this time and I purchased the tree starting kit with all three trees. I thought the expandable mulch brick was great and helped to keep the tree roots moist. The fertilizer was easy to mix and it seemed to jump start my trees. All three trees are now a year old and have survived the winter and are thriving. I just went out and pruned them yesterday. I think the starter kit would help any tree you would plant. I love Redbud trees so good luck with your tree.
How do i protect trees from deer?
Jeff on Feb 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Fence is definitely key. We do a square of 4 posts out 3-4 ft. around so long necks and tall deer can't get to the outer branches as they grow.
Can you put wood chips around the tree?
Mary G on May 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Do not put fresh wood chips around a new tree; there is too much nitrogen and it can burn the roots. Mulch that has been chipped for 6 months or more is OK to use. Leave 1-2' of space around the trunk; do not place the mulch right up to the trunk.
How many trees can the Coco-Fiber Planting Medium coir brick be used on?
KELLIE C on May 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: One brick makes enough medium for 4 new trees.
when and how to trim my apple tree?
Tom Plumb on Jun 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This is not really a one or two sentence answer, as you need to understand the whys and wherefores of pruning or you could ruin your tree. This is our best-selling book, and customers have told us for years how it helped them understand how to properly prune their fruit trees in a way they could understand.
Hello, last year I bought dwarf peach tree from u guys this year we noticed some problem that looks like that tree got some bugs after some research I found out it???s called peach curl disease something like that r u familiar with that and what will u suggest me to treat that problem? Thank u
Sobia G on Jun 24, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It's called peach leaf curl and it's very common among peach trees. Leaf curl can severely inhibit fruit production. Disease fungi overwinter underneath the bark, around buds and in other protected areas. During cool, wet spring weather, the spores infect new leaves as they emerge from the buds. Later, the fungus produces millions of new spores, which are splashed or blown from tree to tree.

Symptoms: Leaf curl shows up in the spring as reddish areas on new leaves, which then thicken and crinkle, causing them to ???curl.??? Spray the whole tree after most all of leaves have dropped in the fall, and again in the early spring, just before buds open.

Control: Manual

Select resistant varieties whenever possible.
Keep the ground free of leaves and debris, especially over the winter.
Prune and destroy infected plant parts as soon as you see them.
Control: Natural Spray

Serenade?? Garden Disease Control
Bonide?? Copper Fungicide Spray or Dust
Bonide?? Citrus, Fruit & Nut Orchard Spray
Monterey Fruit Tree Spray Plus
Monterey Horticultural Oil
How do I protect from deer?
Roy A on Mar 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Deer like new growth and if your tree is young and shorter they can reach young tender branches easily. the stark tree success kit will help you with the bark of the tree and keep other lower critters from munching on the bark, but I recommend netting and or a animal spray ,for the upper part of the tree.
. Good luck, p.s my dad uses chicken wire around the top of the tree as a deterrent . He uses sticks to hold up the wire around the tree.
Can you cut tree guards if they are too tall?
Scott B on Mar 28, 2020
BEST ANSWER: If you have lots of rabbits and mice maybe not a good idea. We put light fencing around the trees and the cut some of the tree guard back. It worked fine. We have lots of rabbits and they can destroy young trees. Good luck! Best,

Stark Tree Success Kit
The tree success kit was helpful to me as a home owner who doesn't have a lot of experience planting trees. I had never worked with the fiber brick before, but it really helped fluff up my heavier clay soil, and get the cherry tree that I purchased off to a good start. The tree-guard gives me a little peace of mind when I string trim around the tree, and the fertilizer is another addition that is helping this tree succeed. I would recommend this kit to novice tree growers who are planting a few trees.

Just the right things to get me going
After selecting Stark Bro's fruit trees to purchase (an apricot, a peach collection, and a pear collection), I though that the TREE SUCCESS KITS would be ideal to ensure that they had a good start. I was very pleased to see my peaches blossoming after three years and thoroughly surprised to see blossoms on my three year old pears this Spring.
