If you are starting asparagus for the first time, we would plant 5 to 10 asparagus plants per person.
Yes they do! Make sure you weed early in the year and mulch with asparagus and they come back better each year! The Millennium comes back here in Northeastern Ohio just fine. I use chopped leaves in the fall to mulch, about two inches and then gardener's straw, the sticky stuff with no weed seeds, in the spring. Good luck!
Yes - This variety is compatible in all of zone 9.
We appreciate you reaching out to us. Because weather and soil conditions vary so much from year to year and even within your zone, it's best to think of your planting time as a range of favorable conditions instead of an exact time.
You can plant new plants and trees:
1) when the ground is not frozen.
2) when daytime temperatures are above freezing (32ºF) and below 90ºF.
3) when extreme weather (blizzard, hail, torrential rain, etc.) is not in the forecast. Be sure to keep plants watered if you're transplanting in warm and/or dry weather.
If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!
Planted ours in 2 different areas on our new 3 acre property. Every root came up for 2 seasons now. Have deer every morning but they don't bother the asparagus.
These are 1 year crowns and they will not begin to produce for 3 years. They won't spread out much in the first couple of years, but once established, they will quickly fill in.
Customer Reviews
I planted them in a well-prepped bed, and they took off quickly! Within just a couple of weeks, I started seeing healthy green spears popping through. I chose Millennium for its cold hardiness and high yields, and so far, it's living up to the hype.
Very happy with Stark Bros once again-their bare root quality is top-notch, and these asparagus crowns are a strong start to what I hope will be a long-lasting asparagus patch.
Nothing better than tender asparagus roasted on the grill.
been wanting to plant for years added on to garden this year
Good for cold climates in north
I ordered these 3 years ago and they are now coming in and I like the flavor and size. They seem to be quite plentiful in harvest and hardy in my climate. I'm going to try some more in another row.
