About Okame Cherry Trees
A stunning and easy-to-grow ornamental cherry tree!
The Okame Cherry tree is one of the few flowering cherries that grow and blossom in warmer zones. This ornamental tree blooms earlier than other cherries with pink, showy, fragrant flowers. The early spring blooms are so lovely, they are celebrated at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC.
Even when the tree isn’t blooming, it makes a lovely addition to your garden, thanks to its green leaves with orange tints. The beautiful leaves turn yellow, orange and red in the fall. For winter appeal, once leaves are gone, textured reddish-bronze bark adds interest. Plant this flowering tree as a landscape feature or in a row to frame your driveway.
How to Grow an Okame Cherry Tree
Okame cherry is the most heat, humidity and drought resistant of the flowering cherries. With a low chill requirement, the blooms are reliable. Cherry trees can do well in almost any kind of soil, although this hybrid cherry doesn’t do well in overly wet or clay soil, so make sure that you avoid these soil conditions.

in retrospect, I probably should have put some shade cloth over them during the blazing 105° day streaks we had.
My Yoshino and Okami did the same thing They both grew great until they got sunburned in the late summer super heat. Now that the heat is gone, they are both recovering with new leaves all around.

My wife wanted them. I am a farmer, and once this tree is grown, I plan to take cuttings, and plant them along our drive for her enjoyment.
