Silver Maple Tree
Description
About the Silver Maple Tree
The Silver Maple is one of the fastest-growing native maple trees. This is a lovely shade tree with ornamental features. The top of the leaves are green, with silver undersides that shimmer with the wind. In autumn, you will be greeted with a lovely display of gold.
This large landscape tree is easy to grow, as it tolerates a wide variety of soil – even in wet areas. Naturally found growing along riverbanks, this American classic is an excellent choice to add shade and interest to your backyard.
Silver Maple trees have visual appeal, while also providing shade. The sap is not ideal for making syrup, due to its low sugar content, but this large tree can be utilized for its timber.
Prized for transplanting well, the Silver Maple also matures quickly. Plant in full sun and these trees will rapidly grow to a height of about 50-70' - growing about 3-7' per year!
Due to the fast-growing nature of these trees, the limbs are brittle and can be damaged by storms, leaving behind debris.

Questions & Answers
Not recommended as these can get 50-70 feet tall
Bare-root. Ships 1 - 2' Tall.
Silver maple trees have incredibly shallow, fast-growing roots. They might be prized for their vibrant colour in autumn, but their root systems are one of the most invasive of all. As the roots enlarge, silver maple trees have been known to crack driveways, pavements, foundations and pipes.
Generally, I've found them to be less than the first choice for deer browse. However, young saplings are still susceptible to any animal that will browse. It's best to keep them protected the first couple years until they get about 10' tall
I dig the hole only as deep as the root ball and twice as wide. I use Espoma bio-tone starter fertilizer and backfill the hole with a good quality tree and shrub soil, because we have sand, not dirt. (South Central Texas)
We planted one of these - but is was in the corner of our woods...... not in the yard...Silver Maple trees are known for their beauty. They make fantastic additions to landscapes. Their silver bark is a stark contrast to darker barked trees. However, Silver Maple trees have a fatal flaw. These trees are so resilient that their roots will tear up everything. They will rip up foundations of homes, sidewalks, and even sewer lines..
So they are so pretty - but away from areas where they can do some damage......

Will continue to shop with them.
I have been buying these trees to put in my flood irrigated pastures to shade my cattle. We built hog panel fences around them to protect the trees while they grow.
My house is in a new development without any trees in the yards so I chose this tree because it is fast growing and a good shade tree.
I want a pretty large shade tree for my front yard. Please send a nice healthy one. I bought 2 bare root apple trees and they're both doing well.
