Stark® Tree Guards
Description
Rabbits chew. The sun scalds. String trimmers strike. For young trees, the bark is the most vulnerable part — and damage there can be fatal. Stark® Tree Guards are a simple, inexpensive way to protect your investment from the moment you plant.
Lightweight, Durable, and Easy to Use
These perforated spiral plastic guards wrap snugly around the trunk of young trees, shielding tender bark from animal damage, sunscald, and accidental equipment strikes. The spiral design makes them quick to apply and adjust, and the perforations allow airflow to prevent moisture buildup. Built to last through multiple seasons.
Choosing the Right Size
- 10" guards — ideal for columnar or dwarf trees with narrow trunks
- 20" guards — the most popular size for newly planted young trees
- 40" guards — best for larger whips or trees with longer exposed trunks
When in doubt, go longer — you can always trim excess, but a guard that’s too short leaves bark exposed.
Tips for Best Results
Apply your tree guard right at planting, when trees need protection most. Check the coil periodically throughout the growing season to make sure it hasn’t tightened against the trunk as the tree grows, and clear out any grass that collects inside. Keep string trimmers and mowing equipment away from the guards — equipment strikes are one of the leading causes of young tree mortality.
For complete protection, pair with Stark® Tree Mat Circles to suppress weeds and retain moisture at the base of your trees.
