Description

Help bats help you! Gardeners who battle insect pests find value in these native, nocturnal flying mammals. Bats are insectivores, opportunistically feeding on insect populations including moths, beetles, wasps, and mosquitoes. Our bat house provides an ample environment for up to 100 bats for use in both suburban and rural areas. The design’s flat back allows for easy hanging on outdoor surfaces. For attracting and protecting bat populations, we suggest hanging bat houses on a pole, approximately 15-feet up with a south/south-east exposure. Hang bat houses away from trees, but near water if possible. Materials used: bat-friendly exterior-grade cedar wood painted with water-based ink. Bats, hanging hardware, and pole not included. Made in USA.

  • Dimensions: 15.5" x 7.5" x 6.5" tail to tip. 4.5" extended backboard landing area below entrance. 3 bottom-open compartments, each with approximate 1" x 5" entrance to accommodate bats.

Produced at Scenic River Industries – A shelter workshop located in Missouri, providing employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

How do the bats know it???s for them??
Chris J on Nov 12, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Bats use sight to locate their new homes. Generally, a bat is more likely to spot your bat house as being a possible home if it is high up and out in the open. Another reason for placing the bat house higher up is to avoid predators. For example, hawks will often pick off bats as they leave their home. How do you attract bats to a bat house?
Let your garden act as a magnet.

Fragrant flowers, herbs, and night-blooming plants attract nocturnal insects, which, in turn, lure bats. The more insects, the better. Try planting dahlia, French marigold, nicotiana, evening primrose, thyme, raspberry, or honeysuckle.
how can I tell bats are actually using it and where is best location to place them?
Lexi P on Sep 7, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Bats poop where they nest. You can see poop pellets (looks pretty much like mouse droppings) directly below the bat house. As for location, at least 15??? above the ground on the south or west side of a building is best. Good to stay away from trees, since owls like to sit in trees and love to eat bats.
Are there grooves inside each chamber for the bats to cling to once they are inside resting? Thank you for your reply!
Judy Centala on Dec 18, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The interior of the bat house has a mesh fastened in it. The bats cling to the mesh very safely.
It is amazing to see how many bats leave their bat house at sunset. Although it looks small, it houses dozens of bats.
How many chambers?

Has anyone actually seen bats using this after it has been mounted?
DONALD S on Nov 23, 2020
How do I hang this feeder?

I had one many years ago mounted on an open tree trunk 15??? high. It was not used for many years. Suddenly one summer some other creatures, not bats, used it for one season.

What else, besides snakes, would use a bat house?

It is built of good material. The added roof of waterproof material is excellent. Bats need to have grooves in the landing pad to grab on to about a quarter of an inch apart ....MISSING ...a faulty part of the design , small air vents on the side would also be wise ...several small holes drilled on each side would take care of that . Stain the inside with dark water based stain . The outside could be stained or painted with a dark color ...no paint on the inside . Directions for hanging with needed materials to purchase needed. Smaller unit than usual . Make it better!

Stark Bat House
The bat house was built very nicely. The problem we had was how to hang it. There was not any instructions on how to hang it. There is not any room to put a bolt or a screw on the top. We are still trying to figure it out.

A Good Quality Product
The Bat House was smaller than I expected, but it was a good quality product. It has been up a year and there are still no bats in the house.

Very good quality
I was planning on building my own but after opening these and saw the quality I did not want to dare buy the lumber and build it myself.
The price is good and I’m sure the bat houses are going to do fine.
I plan on buying a couple more very soon.
