Standard Fruit Trees Buyer's Guide

Standard fruit trees are the largest-size fruit trees available. Without the size-restriction of dwarf or semi-dwarf rootstocks, these trees are reminiscent of their “standard”, full heights. Picture a majestic 18 to 25 foot (or larger) tree providing loads of fruit at harvest time and generous amounts of shade in the summer months — that’s a standard-size fruit tree. Standard fruit trees may take longer to fruit than dwarf or semi-dwarf fruit trees, but, once they get started, they produce a greater quantity of fruit over time. You may need a ladder or fruit picker to help at harvest, but you can enjoy harvests from long-lived standard fruit trees for generations.

Standard-size peach trees and nectarine trees are naturally smaller than other standard fruit trees, and are only about 12 to 15 feet tall and wide at maturity.
Standard European pear trees, with their columnar growth habit, mature at about 18 to 20 feet tall (and 12 to 13 feet wide).
Standard apricot trees average 15 to 20 feet tall and wide once they’ve fully matured.
