Prime-Ark® Traveler Primocane Blackberry Plant
Description
Prime-Ark® Traveler is the blackberry that checks every box — thornless, productive, everbearing, and firm enough to hold up at farmers' markets. Developed by the University of Arkansas fruit-breeding program and introduced in 2015, it produces glossy, sweet, sub-acid berries with a quality that stands out among primocane varieties. Its upright, vigorous canes make picking easy, and the firm texture means the fruit ships and stores better than most blackberries. Self-pollinating and productive from year one in Zones 5–9, it’s one of the finest home blackberry varieties available.
Two Harvests, One Long Season
Prime-Ark® Traveler’s primocane nature gives it a dual-season production structure that’s genuinely impressive. Second-year floricanes produce the heaviest crop in June, while first-year primocanes begin ripening in July and continue fruiting all the way to the first frost. The result is a harvest window that stretches from June through fall — far longer than standard summer-bearing blackberries — with peak production building as the planting matures.
Firm, Glossy Fruit With Farmers' Market Quality
The fruit quality is what earned this variety its following. The berries are medium-to-large, deeply glossy, and notably firm — a combination that’s rare in blackberries and that makes them exceptional for fresh eating, baking, preserving, and selling at market. The flavor is delightfully sweet with a pleasant sub-acid balance that’s satisfying and clean without being sharp.
Thornless, Upright, and Easy to Manage
The thornless canes are a practical advantage at every stage — planting, training, and harvesting are all easier and more pleasant without the scratches that thorned varieties deliver. The vigorous upright habit means canes stay accessible without constant management, and the plants establish quickly for fast first-year production.
