Questions & Answers
It has a sharp/sweet taste. Good for cooking or eating fresh. Everyone has a different opinion on these. Really great for their disease resistance.
I consider this apple an important ingredient for my mixture of Liberty, Enterprise
and unknown heirloom varieties grown before my ownership of my home orchard. The mixture of varieties makes a sweet, crisp apple juice and apple pies every year with little maintenance needed for blight control.

I have planted many dwarf and semi dwarf fruit trees over the years, and none of them started blooming and bearing fruit until they were at least 5 years old. Most did not start bearing regularly until they were closer to 10 years or even older, and apple trees take longer than any other fruit tree to bear fruit. I find that peaches and plums establish faster than apple trees and are usually begin producing fruit in 2 or 3 years. One thing I found that helps a tree produce fruit buds is a light application of fertilizer that is high in potassium and potash but low in nitrogen in mid summer. (July) Don't over do it! About a half cup of 5-10-10 or 5-20-10 should be enough sprinkled in a circle a few feet away from the trunk. This will help the tree to grow extra fruit buds for next spring and will thicken the main trunk and branches. It's actually better that a tree does not bear fruit too young because the young, thin branches are seldom strong enough to support the weight of the mature fruit and can be severely damaged, bent and broken. I have seen this happen on a few of my own trees. Most dwarf trees require thinning of the young fruit so they can grow to full size without damaging the tree's structure.
Thank you for your inquiry! Yes, the Stark GrandGala will also pollinate with the Enterprise Apple.

apples can stand?
The sweet fruit has sizes varying from 2" to 4". The tree is cold hardy down to -40 and produces annually with lighter crops in some years. The apple is medium to large, sweet, and firm, with a crisp crunch.
Good Morning Michael,
Yes, you can plant in 5A in November as long as the tree is dormant and the ground is not frozen. You also have to water the tree when planting so the roots take hold. Good luck.

This variety is Extremely disease-resistant to apple scab, cedar apple rust and fire blight; moderate resistance to powdery mildew.
It’ll be best if you wait until just the right time to pick the fruit off your trees. Apples tell you they’re ripe by losing the last traces of their green background color and developing full, bright color. Most important, they become less tangy-tart and sweeter in taste. You’ll also notice the seeds turn from white to brown. When picking, just lift them upward quickly. If they’re ready, they will come loose without damage to the tree. This variety is typically ready to harvest in October.

This appeared to be a relatively disease resistant variety. There were some others such as liberty and freedom but this read as a variety that suited my tastes better. I also wanted a mid season…
