Description

GoldRush Apple Tree – Disease-Resistant & Flavor-Packed Late-Season Apple.

A top choice for organic growers, the GoldRush Apple Tree is prized for its exceptional disease resistance and outstanding flavor development over time. This late-season dessert apple is immune to apple scab and highly resistant to powdery mildew, making it an ideal low-maintenance option for home orchards.

GoldRush apples start with a tart, tangy bite that sweetens in storage, developing a rich, complex flavor with hints of spice. Their firm texture makes them excellent for fresh eating, baking, and cider making. These apples hold their shape beautifully in pies, crisps, and sauces, while their high sugar content makes them perfect for long-term storage—retaining peak quality for up to 7 months in proper conditions.

GoldRush Apple Tree Overview:

  • Disease Resistance: Immune to apple scab; highly resistant to powdery mildew and moderately resistant to fireblight.
  • Flavor & Texture: Tart at harvest, developing a sweeter, spiced complexity in storage; crisp and firm.
  • Harvest Time: Mid-to-late October—one of the last apples to ripen, extending your harvest season.
  • Pollination: Requires a mid-to-late season pollinator like Red Fuji, Jonafree, Northern Spy or Enterprise for best fruit production.
  • Best Uses: Fresh eating, baking, cider making, and long-term storage.
  • Tree Characteristics: Vigorous, upright growth; well-suited for USDA hardiness zones 5-8.

First introduced in 1993 as Co-op 38, the GoldRush Apple Tree was developed through a collaborative breeding program with Purdue, Rutgers, and the University of Illinois. Its outstanding disease resistance and long storage life make it a must-have for home orchards.

Why did you choose this?

I choose the GoldRush apple because of their amazing flavor, crisp texture, versatility, and disease resistance!!!

I choose the GoldRush apple because of it's delightful flavor and versatility. I work at a local cafe and we use GoldRush apples specifically to make applesauce. The fruit is large and beautiful with…

Disease resistance, long storage, crisp apple, and available as a DWARF, also it can pollinate my Honeycrisp.

This apple is not only delicious but it keeps for months in the fridge

Would either Liberty or Freedom be OK pollinators for Goldrush? They are the other 2 disease-resistant varieties I plan to order for zone 7A.

Freedom will serve as a good pollinator, but Liberty blooms at a different time.

I want to plant 2 trees so I was interested in this and a honey crisp. will they cross pollenate? that would be ideal.

You are in luck - they are in the same flowering group, so they will be good partners. Two great apples!

Will honeycrisp work as a pollinator for this variety?

It's a little iffy; GoldRush blooms later, but there is some overlap. If there's a late spring, there's a better chance.

What are “chill hours”?

Correction to my own answer. :-) Not just daylight hours...number of hours the temperature stays below a certain point (some say 45 degrees F, some say 34). This "tells" the fruit tree when it should be safe to break dormancy. If a variety has a low number of required chill hours, and is planted in a long-winter area, it could try to bloom before winter loosens its icy grip.

is gold rush tree and grimes golden compatible ?

Yes — GoldRush and Grimes Golden apple trees are genetically compatible for cross-pollination

Does this dwarf apple variety grow well on a trellis systems?

Yes, a Gold Rush apple can grow well on a trellis, especially if you're training it to grow in a form like the espalier method, which is a popular way to grow apple trees on a trellis.

Am in Africa how can i get the tree?

I'm Sorry we only ship to US and now Canada.

Is a Dolgo crabapp a good cross pollinator for Goldrush?

Yes you can use the crabapple for pollination.

We have a Cosmic Crisp tree, will this be a good cross pollinator choice?

The cosmic crisp is a mid to late season bloomer and the Goldrush is a late bloomer so they should cross pollinate.

My Gold Rush apple tree is doing very well. So well that a deer found the tasty new growth very good to eat. I have put up some protection now to keep the deer away. I'm looking forward to a crop of apples in a year or two. Thank you Stark Bros for the great fruit trees you produce. I have been a loyal customer for the past 36 years.

Best apple ever!
The GoldRush tree is doing very well. I am looking forward to fruit. Although admittedly biased, as my father Jules Janick is the breeder and inventor of this apple, it is the best apple ever.
