Fantastic apple, wonderful flavor, and it doesn't all boil down leaving yummy bits to chew. We had it before where we purchased it from a produce stand. It is closed down now. It is a huge apple. Favorite flavor.

Is Mutsu a good pie apple? How about disease resistance?
Cathy on Oct 16, 2016
Matsu is cross between a golden delicious and a Japanese Indo Apple. My dad had about 60 different apples trees. I have a new tree not bearing yet. But when I was a teen I remember making excellent cider with this Apple. It is also wonderful for baking my mother use to make Apple pizza and Apple cobbler with this Apple.
Far as disease resistance it depends on how much you spray and what area you live in United States. Look into it I would highly recommend this Apple you will not go wrong.
Are the mutsu apple trees grown organically?
eva f on Feb 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't think it matters whether the seedling is grown organically or not ...
when you plant the seedling you can begin using organic methods and if the insects haven't destroyed the plant you'll begin harvesting organically grown apples within 3 to 5 years.
I have had a mutzu planted for 6 years in zone 4, and no flowers or fruit yet. There is red delicious apple tree, still bearing, 70 feet away. What can I do to get the mutzu to bear?
Mary G on Aug 18, 2020
BEST ANSWER: We appreciate you reaching out to us. You need to plant a pollinator tree closer as pollination typically only happens within 50 feet of one another.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!
can i fertilize Mutsu after April?
Mary G on May 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: If the tree is new, it's best to wait and fertilize next spring. If the tree is established, it's OK to fertilize until July 1, then stop. If you continue fertilizing, you'll encourage tender new growth too late in the season, which will be damaged by the cold and could invite pests/diseases.
Will a white blossom crab apple pollinate a Mutsu?
Ken M on Oct 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It most certainly will. One of the best white-blossom crabapple pollinators is Whitney, which you can read more about here:

Mutsu Apple
Mutsu has become my favorite apple for fresh eating. It is big and exceptionally sweet. So I planted one that I ordered from Stark Bros and when it arrived, it was well pruned and a very healthy tree. The tree is growing exceptionally well and I look forward to the day it begins to bear.

Excellent Apple
I ordered this tree and it is the best apple ever! it is good to eat and I make a lot of apple pies out of them. As far as I am concerned this is the best apple overall than any others that I planted and the tree is very nice and straight.

Trying to be patient
I am trying to be patient waiting the 5 years before I will have the apples. But after a very tough winter, I am happy to report that the trees are budding! These are delicious apples. One year down - four to go!
