Wilton's® Red Jonaprince Apple Tree
Description
About the Wilton’s® Red Jonaprince Apple Tree
The Wilton’s® Red Jonaprince apple tree is a standout for its brilliant color, firm texture, and exceptional eating quality. This reliable variety produces large, deep red apples with crisp, juicy flesh and a rich, aromatic flavor—balanced beautifully between sweet and tart.
A natural mutation of Jonagold (itself a cross between Jonathan and Golden Delicious), Red Jonaprince was discovered in the Netherlands in 1994. It ripens nearly a month earlier than Jonagold—typically in early September—and boasts a firmer texture and higher sugar content, making it a favorite for both fresh eating and baking. Unlike many early apples, its fruit ships and stores remarkably well, often improving in flavor after a short time in storage.
How to Grow the Wilton’s® Red Jonaprince Apple Tree
This variety blooms mid-season and will benefit from a compatible pollination partner nearby—see recommendations below. Trees are moderately vigorous and hardy, with disease resistance similar to Jonagold. For best results, plant in full sun and well-drained soil. To maintain fruit quality and prevent biennial bearing, regular thinning is recommended due to its high yield potential.
Whether you’re building a backyard orchard or adding to a homestead, the Wilton’s® Red Jonaprince delivers stunning color, reliable harvests, and a long-lasting flavor that holds up beautifully in storage.

NO it will need another apple tree variety that blooms at the same time in order to bear fruit.
The same variety cannot pollinate itself. You will need another apple variety with a similar bloom time in order for good pollination to occur. We only list a few possible pollinators on our product page.
Cross-pollination by a different variety is key to its growing and bearing success. Plant one of these varieties within 100' for best pollination. You need something in the mid- late season bloom time. Harts Fancy, Red Romance, Ruby Darling or Scarlet Crush.
