One of my favorite early season apples

Bought 1 before, love this tree

Had one on our farm in Earlville Ny years ago, now we’ll have it again

when in NC should you plant a Transparent Apple Tree ?

I hesitate to answer this question too specifically because my tree was planted in NY which is a significant hardiness zone difference so the time frame will be different. However, I can't think that the basics would differ very much. Apple trees would be planted, as would any tree, either in early spring - pretty much as soon as the soil can be worked but not when it is still very wet if this is a problem - or as soon as temps begin to cool in late summer or early fall. In NY this often occurs by mid-August (unfortunately!). Trees lose a tremendous percentage of the fine feeder root system when transplanted. This must be replaced and the larger the tree the longer that takes. These planting times allow root growth without the transpirational demands of foliage. We actually received our tree very early. I was a bit worried but we put it in the ground and it is doing well despite some early deer damage. Once planted make sure the tree gets plenty of water but don't drown!, roots must get their oxygen from the atmosphere as it diffuses through the soil, and mulch. Mulch keeps the soil more evenly moist and prevents weed wacker damage. I hope this helps. Enjoy!! - the very best applesauce in the world!

Is a Liberty apple tree an acceptable cross pollinator?

The Liberty is an Early - Mid season bloomer and should overlap bloom time with the Yellow Transparent.

I got an email at 4 am that the yellow transperants were back in stock and I go to buy and they are sold out already?

Is there anything special I should do to prepare my new trees for their first Vermont winter?

Hi Judith - We have a great article on our site titled "Winter Protection for Fruit Trees". Just copy and paste that in the search bar. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!

Hi. I live in Wisconsin and have a transparent tree that is about 5 years old. It's the end of September and I just picked the apples from it because some of them were starting to fall. The skins are a bit more greenish. Wondering if I picked them too early and if they will still ripen?

from the old-timers who are acquainted with this older variety, the apple is ready for use when the seeds are brown. so take an apple off the tree and cut into same and you'll have the answer.
our area of Oregon is 4000 feet in elevation and with the cool nights, the transparent apples tend to be mature in (late) August and that's when we make the sauce from this apple, and its companion, the Lodi.

Where are you located ?

We are located in Louisiana Missouri.

Something (probably deer) bit off my tree, leaving about an inch above the graft.  Do you think it will grow back and be able to bear fruit?

It is hard to say if the broken area is exposed disease and others issues can riddle the tree. The good thing is it is above the graft. If your tree is within our 1 year guarantee please reach out to customer service and we will be happ to take care of you.

Do I need to plant another apple tree along with the early transparent?

Yes, it was recommended to help with cross-pollination. A like-type, Lodi
Apple Semi Dwarf, tree was also planted at the same time in close proximation to the Yellow Transparent apple. Both are growing nicely.

Is it the same as papirovka?

Unsure of that variety, but I understand that the yellow transparent was a Russian variety brought over to the US in late 1800.

Is this the same as Antonovka?

No. It’s Beliy Naliv

Broke dormancy very quickly after planting, leafed out, even flowered, although I pinched off bloom to help roots establish this season.

The tree was shipped in a dormant state, so it appeared lifeless on arrival. I planted it according to directions, and when the weather warmed signs of life started to appear. Now, about 3 months later, the tree appears very healthy.

Yellow Transparent Apple
Yellow Transparent Apples are my favorite yellow apple. Soft, sweet and very early ripening. The two trees I ordered are both growing well, and both actually had a few blossoms the first year in the ground. I'm very happy with my new trees.

Stark fruit trees always arrive healthy and happy
Ordered in late spring 2023. A healthy little tree in the advanced root system pot arrived very quickly. So far it is doing well and I'm impatiently waiting for our 5a winter to to pass (we're just getting started haha) so I can watch this little one put on some amazing 2024 growth.
