Carmen Hass Avocado Tree
Description
Elevate your garden with the Carmen Hass Avocado tree, an exceptional cultivar renowned for its year-round productivity and superior fruit quality. Scientifically known as Persea americana ‘Carmen Hass,’ this variety is a standout within the Hass family, combining the beloved characteristics of the classic Hass with unique attributes that make it a must-have for any avocado enthusiast.
The Carmen Hass Avocado tree is a vigorous grower, reaching a height of 25-30 feet, perfect for small gardens and larger landscapes alike. Its compact size makes it ideal for container planting, allowing you to enjoy fresh avocados even if space is limited. Unlike other avocado varieties, the Carmen Hass can produce multiple crops throughout the year. This means you can enjoy fresh, delicious avocados nearly year-round, with peak harvests in spring and fall. Avocado trees are self-pollinating; however Carmen Hass is a TYPE A avocado and requires a TYPE B avocado tree nearby for optimal pollination.

Questions & Answers
What kind of fertilizer?
Avocado trees are prone to root rot if the soil retains too much moisture so a sandy loam is ideal. I have lost numerous avocados and mangos when planting in big box store soils. I use mostly sand augmented with worm castings which provide lots of organic nitrogen and i havent lost any trees since the change to die back. Also mulch to retain moisture in the sandy soils as avocados have shallow roots. My favorite is the bacon avocado. Good temperature tolerance, grows fast, lots of fruit that tastes great! I hope the carmen hass is in the same class but wont know for a year or two.
I won't use the word "best" because it really depends on the type avocado you like to eat. But I will say, I received a really nice, healthy tree that I am now waiting to see how it handles the light freezes we are having this week.
You don't have to build a fence around your tree, instead get a section of fence and connect end to ends creating a circle, put this circle over your tree and stake it to keep the wind from blowing it into the tree because this will happen and could tear up your tree.

Yes suggested pollinators ae listed towards the bottom of the product page. A Bacon avocado or the Fuerte Avocado would be great choices.

everbearing, compatible with my zone (9a), self-pollinating
Hoping that the year round productivity is accurate for SW Florida.
