- If you live in a cooler climate, plant these warm-weather plants in containers so that you can move them indoors before freezing temperatures arrive.
- Tree matures around 8-10 feet tall but can be kept smaller in containers.
- Banana plants ship after April 1st in spring. This plant does not ship when cold weather threatens, so you may receive it separately from the rest of your order.

Questions & Answers
Thank you for your question! The Dwarf Banana Plant will be 6-12 months old and has a shipping expectation of 4" tall.
Yes! My plant is in a big planter. We move him outside for summer, and inside for winter (we live in Minnesota).
We have transplanted into a larger pot as the plant grows, it is about 3 1/2 foot tsall at this point but I expect it to get double that size or close? We have only had it less than 2 years. No blossoms as of this date we just look forward to watching and finding out what is to come. It is a beautiful plant!
Thank you-Lisa
I've had mine for 16 months or so now, and it is about 4.5 feet tall, including the pot, to the top of the currently growing leaf. I haven't used a special soil, but I do use a tropical plant/fruit fertilizer.
I actually have had my plant out in my green house during the winter with a heater. I think it would have done better if I brought it inside. It is doing much better now that it has gotten warmer. It can be kept inside but it may be better outside now for the sun.
The height shouldn’t be an issue, but it needs direct sunlight. Mine has done extremely well wintering indoors in a large, South facing window. In fact, we harvested bananas this winter.
I've had one of these trees for two years. I live in zone 6, so I planted him in a large planter. I keep him in front of a sunny window during winter, and move him outside during summer. I'm still waiting for the bananas, but enjoy the beauty of this darling tree!!
Cavendish bananas are ready to harvest 300–365 days after the plant matures, which is 160–190 days after the flower emerges. In most climates, it's best to wait up to 120 days after the flower emerges, so if the flower appears in mid-July, the bananas can be harvested in late October or early November.
Our soil is CLAY and does not drain well!
This plant requires loamy soil. IF you have clay, you will need to amend your soil Adding materials such as organic compost, pine bark, composted leaves and gypsum to heavy clay can improve its structure and help eliminate drainage and compaction problems. Avoid adding sand or peat moss to clay; they can make those problems worse.
You can definitely grow it in a pot but it needs lots of sun so it would be better outside while it is warm weather and bring it in before frost temps in your area. I live in zone 8 and bananas die back when planted in the ground outside but re-sprout when the warm weather returns.
