Description

A Stark Bro's Exclusive!

Pear perfection. For lovers of russetted fruit, this pear is especially for you. It descends from Bartlett, so it’s full of juice, spice and sweet pear essence, but includes the nutty-tasting russet that adds an element of crispness and extra flavor. Medium to large pomes (slightly larger than Bartlett), with a golden base color and overlay of complete copper-colored russetting. The flesh is white and sub-acid/sweet, and the fruit hangs well on the tree. Keeps up to 8 months in refrigeration. Use as you would a Bartlett, for canning, fresh eating, preserves, syrup or pear butter. Originated as a bud sport in Yakima, Wash in 2009 by grower Doug Keithly, who also gave us Hosui, A-Ri-Rang (Korean Giant) and 20th Century Asian pears. Evenly ripens in very late August, about a week after Bartlett. Recommended pollinators: Starking® Delicious Pear, Moonglow or Stark® Honeysweet. May be covered by USPP #28,773 or other patents.

Live pears

Price

I've ordered 4 different types of pear trees for my semi dwarf fruit trees. I liked the different uses for this pear and it's storage time.

Preferred cross polinator

Will Russeted Bartlett pollinate an Anjou Pear?

Yes, a Russeted Bartlett pear can pollinate an Anjou pear. Both are compatible varieties, as pear trees typically require cross-pollination from another variety with a similar bloom time to produce fruit. Russeted Bartlett and Anjou pears have overlapping bloom periods, making them good pollination partners.

For successful pollination, ensure that the trees are within about 100 feet of each other to allow pollinators like bees to transfer pollen between them.

How long till  they produce fruit?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. You can find the years-to-bear information in the Characteristics section, near the top of the page, underneath the description. This tree takes 4-6 years to bear.

will this tree be pollinated by shenandoah pear tree?

Yes as this has an early -mid season bloom time.

Will this cross pollinate with a bartlet ?

No It is recommended to use a Starking delicious, Moonglow, Seckel or Colette.

I bought one of these last summer (bare root),  the top 2/3 is dead, but the bottom is  still alive.  I think that I should prune it back to the live section.  Should I buy another tree to insure that I will have a good tree?

No, just the Russetted Pear.  My other16 fruit trees seem to be fine.

Hi Wanda, We appreciate you reaching out to us. I would remove the top dead portion so that the alive portion will be stimulated to put on some new growth for you. Depending on how low that growth is, I would also recommend buying a new tree. If you'd like us to take a look at the tree for you please email us a photo to info@starkbros.com.

Dwarf Russeted Bartlett Pear Tree approx. 3 months after planting.
The dwarf Russeted Bartlett Pear Tree arrived in a 4"x4" E-Z grow pot. It was in great condition when it was delivered and went straight into the ground in my arid, 6,500" altitude southern New Mexico orchard. The photo shows the tree after it's first summer pruning.

Great tree. Too young to expect much from it. However it’s alive and healthy.

Dissatisfied
Came with almost no leaves and the ones there fell off shortly after planting.
