Svea Garlic Bulbs
Description
About Svea Garlic Bulbs
A hardneck variety for true garlic lovers! Svea is a marbled purple stripe type hardneck garlic with beautiful purple and white wrappers. Svea has 5-7 large purple-brown cloves per bulb.
An eye-opening garlic with a strong, spicy flavor that mellows to a tasty nuttiness when roasted or baked. Hardneck garlic, like Svea, is also valued for its scapes, the flower stems that grow from the tops of garlic in early summer. Scapes are a delightful way to spice up recipes in early summer.
While garlic is used widely as a flavoring in cooking, it is also known to have many health benefits.
Growing Svea Garlic
Svea garlic thrives in colder climates and has moderate to good storage qualities. When planted in loose, well-draining soil, this late-season variety will produce bulbs 1.5-2".
It is recommended to plant garlic in the fall and by mid-summer, you will be delighted with a nice harvest. Separate the garlic bulb into individual cloves before planting. Plant the cloves pointed side up to ensure that when the stem grows it will be straight. Plant individual cloves approximately 2-4” deep, 4-6” apart, in rows 18-24” apart.
A half-pound set of garlic contains approximately 4 bulbs. Each bulb contains several cloves for planting. The actual quantity may vary depending on bulb size.
