About French Tarragon Plants

Indulge in the culinary delight of French Tarragon. With its narrow green leaves exuding an enticing anise aroma, this herb is a cook’s favorite, elevating salads, dressings, soups, and meat dishes. Grown in full sun, this upright herb flourishes in the fall and summer, gracing your garden with its edible allure.

French tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus ‘Sativa’) is an aromatic herb that’s also known as estragon, dragon sagewort, or German tarragon. These tall herbs offer a bounty of slender leaves bursting with flavor. Its texture is medium, with soft, strappy green foliage that adds a delicate touch to any dish. Unlike its Russian counterpart, French Tarragon boasts superior taste, making it an indispensable ingredient in French cuisine.

Growing French Tarragon Herbs

French Tarragon is easy to grow and maintain, providing a continuous harvest of aromatic foliage. Ideal for both seasoned gardeners and culinary enthusiasts, it thrives in warm, dry climates. French tarragon may be grown as an annual or as a perennial, as it is winter hardy to zone 4. Its perennial nature ensures a lasting supply of fresh sprigs for culinary uses. Tarragon prefers full sun, well-drained soils, grows to a height of 24 to 36 inches with a 12-to-15-inch spread. For fresh use, harvest sprigs of French tarragon as needed or for storage harvest the entire plant and dry.

This French herb not only enhances your culinary creations but also adds aesthetic appeal to your landscape. Its upright habit and slender leaves make it a charming addition to herb gardens, borders, and containers. Container-friendly and adaptable, Tarragon French Herb thrives in various settings, bringing both beauty and functionality to your outdoor space.

Took it a while to establish itself in the herb row.
4 instead of 5 stars but thinking the lack of a 5th star might be my fault. Transplanted it and it promptly tried to die. Sort of gave up on it and then maybe a month later noticed that it had decided to live and it was small but thriving. It's doing just great now, and has really taken off. Not sure what I did wrong, not sure what I did right.
