Description

Influential in the brewing industry. An offspring of the prominent English hop variety, Fuggle, Willamette offers slight bittering qualities in craft brews, but shines for its flavor and aroma. Fruity, somewhat spicy, herbal qualities also pair well with Cascade in homebrews. Vigorous bines yield small to medium-size cones that are a core ingredient used by professionals and home brewers alike. Named for the Willamette River in northwest Oregon, in the heart of the hops-growing region. Originates from Oregon in 1976. Ripens in early August.

Why did you choose this?

To harvest hops for beer and tea

?

I wanted to try growing hops for a while so where else better?

compatible with my grow zone and per chat boards this variety pretty conducive to surviving my first time grower skills...

Are all your hop plants guaranteed to be female plants?

To the best of my knowledge yes, propagators only sell female clones because they are what flavors the beer, male plants can fertilize a female and produce seeds which you do not want, as it makes it fluffy and full of volume and hard to process. So males are typically only used for breeding puposes.

will deer eat this ?

No. Deer have stayed far away from mine.

Growing very well
I have clay soil but this vine has still grown at least 6 feet since I planted it a couple of months ago. Very happy with the pace of growth and health of the plant. No signs of disease or pest vulnerability.

Received in great condition. No directions on how to plant. I dug hole deep enough to have the potting soil it came in sit level with the ground. I put back in soil to finish filling the hole and put mulch around the plant. Watered and waited. Fall/winter set in and the plant did not get any bigger. I am hopeful next spring it makes a great comeback and grows to full potential.

Hoppy
I am sorry to report that my two Willamette hops crowns never sprouted. These were bare crowns. I notice that Stark's now only sells these in a pot form, which should improve success.
