Questions & Answers
Highly disease-resistant. It is also heat-tolerant, humidity-tolerant and pest-resistant. One of the easiest-care plants I have in my own garden at home. :-)
No, this is a quercifolia variety, an oakleaf. It is much more deer-resistant than paniculatas.
We appreciate you reaching out to us. These are shipped in 1 gallon pots that will be 18-24 inches tall.

Hi Tracylynn,
I have two Ruby Slippers Hydrangea in my front flower bed and they are planted in full sun. They do beautifully. I do put some mircle grow acid on them at the beginning of spring. This will be their 3rd summer and they are gettting bigger each year. But I think they are a dwarf variety so they are perfect in a smaller space. I love the color of the blooms and look foward to seeing them all summer long. I hope you enjoy your plant as much as I enjoy mine.
Yes - I originally bought three last year and added four more this year in pots. All are growing well and the first three are blooming this year.
Blooms grow on old wood for this variety.
In general hydrangeas need a considerable amount of water--that's actually what the "hydra" part of the name comes from. Having said that, oak leaf hydrangeas, and Ruby Slippers in particular, tend to need less water than other hydrangeas once established. I probably would not call them drought tolerant however.
Deer aren't supposed to. I live in a rural area; and purchased these once for that exact reason (in hopes that they wouldn't), but unfortunately my plant didn't survive. My hydrangea arrived broken. I never reached out to the company about my order, in hopes it would grow (nothing happened). I would give them a try - only suggestion I have is that if your order arrives damaged, contact as soon as possible. That way you can be compensated. Customer service seems awesome from other reviews here.
Don't know about pets eating it but the deer enjoy eating every part of this plant. Thus I don't believe the plant is poisionous.
No. Oakleaf hydrangeas are native to North America (originally in the SE) but grow as far north as NY due to climate change. Bc they are native they really don't need much extra care other than establishing them in the first year. That is why I chose them. (I live in SE Pennsylvania)
Customer Reviews
What a great specimen plant.
The length of my review is absolutely silly.
Looks different than other hydrangeas I have had in the past.
My favorite
love hydrangeas and the color change and leaf pattern on this one in particular.
