I like yellow roses, and wanted a climber to go with a Henryii white clematis. Who could resist "Smiley Face"?

I chose the Smiley Face Climbing Rose because I think it will look terrific against my neighbor's stark white vinyl privacy fence that blinds me whenever I look out my window. I chose a yellow rose to compliment my Judy Zuk Magnolia Tree (yellow blooms). It's a tiny yard, so I think consistent color will calm the visual space. I'm in Zone 6a with loamy, well-drained soil and full sun, so these should be happy in their new home.

Is this a fast grower?
Carl B on Mar 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi Carl. Of course it depends where you live (general climate) and where you
intend to plant it (microenvironment). I planted it along a fence in Philadelphia.
It took a while to get started, but was doing quite well by the end of summer. I would not call it a fast grower in comparison with rugosa type roses, but I would say it established well in the first year and looks quite happy where it is. I kept it watered well after transplanting because we had a dry spell, so I think early care is important. Good luck.

Can these bloom year round?
T K on Jun 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I can say in zone 8b it stays green in a mild winter but doesn't flower though it will rebloom all growing season.
How long does it bloom ?
Kennth J on Jun 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Mine are in there third season. Already blooming. Just covering a 10' fence.

I have to admit I am not sure when blooms stop for last summer was the first season of blooms. As a guess I would say late summer.

Also go on line and source rose by name. I think it will say late summer. Again I am pretty sure on this. Strong healthy plants with very good disease resistance. Do spray with a disease resistant spray even though I have never seen any sign of disease on these plants.

smiley face yellow roses is it thornless?
missy n on Mar 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No. I have this exact rose and it does have thorns. Typically, if it doesn't say thornless, assume it will have thorns.
bees attraction to smile face roses?
Faye P on Mar 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Bees would be as attracted to this rose as they are other roses, but there are flowers that some bees prefer over roses in general. The cup-like shape this rose takes on when it is in full bloom is one that bees prefer, since they don't have to work as hard to gather pollen.
I bought two of these roses and planted them in early June I saw my first flower Tuesday August 15 today I noticed it turned white, is that supposed to happen?
Paula B on Aug 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Sometimes colors fade as they mature. My Geese ate my smiley face rose! I have other roses where this happens.

Exceeding my expectations!
I planted three last fall and those wintered over beautifully, so I completed the bed with three more this spring. The three I planted last fall have buds on them- several each! All six roses have bright green, broad leaves and healthy, flexible canes. I am beyond please with these gorgeous plants. They looked brilliant when they arrived- I commented that they were some of the healthiest plants I've bought anywhere- and they continue to delight. So pretty!

Smiley Face Climbing Rose
It took two growing seasons for this rose to establish itself, but now that it has, this season's blooms are spectacular. Smiley Face is the perfect name.

Nice, bright, rose.
This is a very pretty bright yellow rose and climbs on my fence nicely. I don't think it bloomed until the end of the second year I planted it, but now it blooms regularly and adds to my pretty fence along with other roses.

Pale Yellow
I am now into my third summer from starting this plant as a bare root rose. I think this is common in a lot of yellow roses, but the bud will look very bright yellow, then the flower opens to a light yellow, and then quickly fades to a cream color before losing petals. (Yes, I have it in good soil and light, etc.) I also bought one for a friend who thought it was a white rose - her flowers bloomed so pale. The flowers do not look like the picture shows! Also, the flowers don't last long at all and the foliage is not attractive. The stalk/stems have grown vigorously and it is producing flowers at the top level, but it's not as good looking overall or when blooming as I had perceived before purchasing.
