Description
An award winner from 1964 (AAS), and still very popular. Crisp and sweet, with a high sugar content. Medium-red flesh has a mild, refreshing flavor and relatively few seeds. Rind is very attractive, with dark and light green striping. Once the stem and tendrils begins to naturally shrivel and turn beige-brown, it’s ripe. The “thump test” doesn’t work with this variety. Great for juicing, fresh eating, in salads and even salsa. Somewhat drought-tolerant. Photo courtesy of Baker Creek Heirloom Seed.
