Beauregard Sweet Potato Plant
Description
Beauregard is the sweet potato that serious home growers choose — developed in 1987 at Louisiana State University, it’s one of the most widely grown and respected sweet potato varieties available, producing high yields of uniform, reddish-purple-skinned tubers with exceptionally tender, sweet, deep orange flesh. Maturing in approximately 90 days, it’s heat tolerant, disease resistant, crack resistant, and a strong performer even in cooler-season growing areas. No home vegetable garden should be without it.
Exceptional Flavor and Uniform High Yields
Beauregard’s tender, deep orange flesh is sweet, smooth, and richly flavored — the kind of homegrown sweet potato that tastes fundamentally different from what’s available at grocery stores. The vines produce high yields of uniform, well-shaped tubers with reddish-purple skin that’s attractive at harvest and stores beautifully after curing. At approximately 90 days to maturity, it delivers a reliable, predictable harvest on a schedule that fits neatly into most garden plans.
Disease Resistant, Crack Resistant, and Stores Well
Beauregard was developed specifically for reliable, high-quality production. Its resistance to fusarium wilt and internal rot eliminates two of the most common sweet potato growing problems, and its resistance to cracking keeps tubers intact and market-quality even in variable soil moisture conditions. Properly cured and stored, Beauregard sweet potatoes keep well through the winter — extending your enjoyment of the harvest long after the vines are done.
Performs in Cool-Season Areas Too
Most sweet potato varieties require long, hot summers to produce well. Beauregard’s adaptability to cooler-season growing areas extends its range to gardens where heat is less reliable — a meaningful practical advantage for growers in the northern end of its zone range who want to grow sweet potatoes successfully.
Important Shipping Notes
Sweet potatoes ship separately from the rest of your order, beginning April 15 for the warmest regions and continuing through late May for cooler areas. Spring shipping only — last day to order is June 4. Plant after your last frost date once the soil has warmed. Harvest before frost kills the vines.
