Is this Crab apple tree persistant? Meaning that it doesn't drop it's berries all over the ground.

Hi Gala, I found a few sources that say this tree holds on to the fruit for months and does not drop it.

How well does it grow in clay-like soil on a northwest corner of a lot in Iowa?

Thank you for your question! It will do fine if you are willing to plan carefully and do a little extra work. Crabapple trees will do better than some other trees in clay soil, but your chances will be better if you make sure you don't locate the tree in an area where water stands after a rain. Plant it on a gentle slope, if at all possible. You can also amend the soil with a pH-neutral amendment before planting to give the young tree some breathing room; just add water, let it sit and mix it with the soil that was removed from the planting. Will this pollinate stayman winesap?

Yes, the Prairifire Flowering Crabapple Tree can serve as a pollinator for a Stayman Winesap apple tree, provided their bloom times overlap. Here's why this works:

Pollination Factors
Cross-Pollination Requirement:

Stayman Winesap is not self-fertile, meaning it requires a different apple or crabapple variety nearby for cross-pollination.
Prairifire's Compatibility:

Prairifire produces abundant flowers with viable pollen that is compatible with apple trees.
It blooms mid-season, aligning well with the bloom time of Stayman Winesap in most regions.
Distance:

For effective pollination, plant the Prairifire within 50 feet of the Stayman Winesap to allow bees to transfer pollen efficiently.
Bee Activity:

Both trees depend on bees for pollination, so planting bee-friendly flowers nearby can help increase fruit set.

I planted this a couple years ago, last year the main tree died but it shot a new shoot from the base. Wondering will it still flower or does it need replaced and is just shooting from root stock? Thanks

I am sorry to hear this. Unfortunatley if it died back past the graft it is not going to be the tree you purchased and what ever is growing is the root stock.

Will this crabapple pollinate apple trees? (I have a yellow transparent.)

Yes, If you have apples and are looking for a candidate for cross-pollination prairie fire may be suitable.

Does this tree need a pollinator tree?

No as it is a flowering tree and does not need a pollinator.

Is this deer resistant?

Crabapple trees are not deer resistant.

Beautiful tree!
I just planted the Prairifire Flowering Crabapple tree early this spring and couldn't be happier with the quality of this tree right from the time it was received on my doorstep. Shipping was great, the tree arrived in excellent condition, well packed and larger than I expected. I got it planted, fertilized, mulched and protected from the deer and it is already producing beautiful pink flowers just a few short months after being planted.

Love it!!
The Prairifire Flowering Crabapple is doing just great. We have had it 1 year. It started to flower this spring and then more freezing temperatures. I was worried it would not make it, but when the weather finally warmed up to stay, the tree stared growing like crazy. Hopefully next year the weather will be better and we can enjoy the flowers. Would highly recommend it and Stark Brothers.

The most stunning spring time tree!!!
I have bought several Prairie Fire crab apples over the years and I can honestly say they are my favorite. The bright hot pink blooms are stunning in the spring, the dark leaves are a nice contrast during the summer and in winter the bright red apples are beautiful until the birds eat them all (turkeys love them).
