American Planetree Tree
Description
About the American Sycamore ‘Planetree’
American planetree is also known as the American Sycamore, Buttonwood, or Buttonball tree. It is a deciduous shade tree that grows large and is one of the largest hardwood trees, by diameter, in North America. It is native to North Carolina and can be found throughout the state, although it is more common and larger along streams and bottom land.
Plantree is often planted for shade and habitats for wildlife. American Planetree produces distinctive brown, 1” seed balls on long stringy stalks which hang on the tree all winter long. This sycamore is very adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions. Planetree is surprisingly drought-tolerant when established. Plant this native tree in a wide open space and maintenance will be a breeze.
