Questions & Answers
Each plant needs about a square foot of growing space. You can equally space about 18 plants around the bottom tier; 12 plants around the 4-foot tier and 6 in the 2' top tier.
According to the instructions that come with the planter, "You will need approximately one cubic yard of good rich top soil to fill all rings."
Sure you can! Just make sure to put drainage holes in the bottom and use good soil. There are no silly questions
!!
The edges are actually rounded and very flexible so no sharp edges are exposed, so very low chance of cuts. I have two of them, and if a small child was to fall on them, it's going to do more damage to the planter than the child in my opinion - the metal is like a heavy aluminium foil.
4" is about right. Once installed, the overall height of the entire pyramid was a great shorted than what I had envisioned. It's only a small rise, really, and we have the 3 tier model.
To make this a rectangle, you would need to use 4 corner posts on the inside
of the planter to hold its shape. Hook it together and then place the posts/stakes to create your 4 corners and shape it into a round cornered rectangle. Set the stakes firmly in the ground to hold the shape. They don't need to be any taller than the planter.
You can plant just about anything in these as long as the soil depth is sufficient for what you are growing, especially important for root crops.
Thank you for your question. Because weather and soil conditions vary so much from year to year and even within your zone, it's best to think of your planting time as a range of favorable conditions instead of an exact time.
You can plant new plants and trees: 1) when the ground is not frozen, 2) when daytime temperatures are above freezing (32ºF) and below 90ºF, and 3) when extreme weather (blizzard, hail, torrential rain, etc.) is not in the forecast. Be sure to keep plants watered if you're transplanting in warm and/or dry weather.
I Used one backhoe bucket worth of dirt and i think it is a yard and a half
We have had strawberries in this bed for the past 2 years, and they were not netted. We have had real issues with birds and rabbits nibbling on our berries. They were eating more than us! Bird netting is a must, and will be installed this spring.
