Description

Improve your tree’s structural form. Spreading limbs opens up a tree’s canopy to allow for more light and air circulation. This promotes tree health and increases fruit size and quality. Gently wedge these lightweight, sturdy plastic limb spreaders between a tree’s young, pliable branches and its trunk to encourage wider, stronger branch angles (about 45 degrees from vertical). A great investment — reuse year after year! We suggest using 6" and 9" spreaders for stone fruit trees like cherries, peaches, and plums and 9" and 12" spreaders for fruit trees like apples and pears.

Why did you choose this?

These spreaders work very well and being plastic, are not expected to deteriorate over time. With a short spike in the center, the spreaders seem to cover the functions of both V-notch and spike…

more apples- stronger branches

Have used these limb spreaders for years and found them to be the best as they don't damage the bark by continuous rubbing as do the other types.

I have lots of fruit trees.

How long do branch spreaders have to stay in place?

Depends on the tree but I usually leave the limb spreader in place from early spring until I prune in the winter. I then remove them and if I'm happy with where it stays I reuse on some new young trees. I get several years use usually.

Where are the limb spreaders made?

These limb spreaders are made in the USA (Traverse City, MI).

Does the pruning of the columnar shaped urban apple trees differ from standards?

You'll prune columnar apple trees to a “Central Leader” shape just like regular apple trees.

Klingstone or freestone?

For which variety?

Do you remove tree limb spreaders in the winter or leave them on year round until the limb strengthens?

I leave them on through the winter. After a couple of seasons I find the limbs have achieved the desired spread and stay put.

I noticed they have little spikes in between the wedges, are those intended to pierce the bark? If so will that hurt the tree and I need to use a different size for that branch.

They do pierce the bark. I also wondered if they would hurt the tree but after 2 years my trees are alive. The do not stick in far and a wind storm can blow the branch and the spreader will fall to the ground. I just put it back.

I have 3 apple trees, one pear tree, and one peach tree. How many sets of these should I order?

I have used pretty much one pack per apple tree and half to 3/4 pack for my pear tree. You need to look at each tree to see how many limbs you want to "move" and calculate from there.

Do you happen to have 14,000 12" Limb Spreaders available. 10 Pack $9.99?

Im sorry we do not have access to inventory counts. Please send an email to info@starkbros and someone can assist you with this.

do I need  second Winesap apple tree in my yard in order to produce fruit?   My tree is one yr old.

The same variety cannot pollinate itself. You will need another apple variety with a similar bloom time in order for good pollination to occur. Some Pollinators are listed on the product page

How come the peach tree I bought from you guys 3 years ago is not producing fruit ?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. You can find the years-to-bear information in the Characteristics section, near the top of the page, underneath the description. This tree takes 2-4 years to bear.

Spreading those Limbs has really improved the trees ability to hold the fruit.
Shapely young trees after a summer of using them. I have moved the spreaders throughout the growing season many times to make sure that the limbs are growing in the position where I want them.

Red Spreaders
Did well. Does fall out during high winds. Like that they are red as it makes it easy to see them on the ground when mowing, so I do not mow over them.

Not used
Never used them. Only purchased to meet free shipping criteria. Even though these had a cost, there was an overall savings of about $10. They were the cheapest items to purchase.

Love These!!
Love these limb spreaders. So much easier than making your own out of thick twine and heavy washers to hold down your limbs. We even use the smaller ones on our blueberry bushes on our blueberry farm. Our Moonglow Pear grew with all branches sticking straight up so that tree got us hooked. We've been hooked ever since.

Great limb spreaders
These are perfect for training my young apple/plum trees! They are small and don't break my limbs. Definitely a must for young branches that need help being spaced out.
