Limb Spreaders
Description
Improve your tree’s structural form. Spreading limbs opens up a tree’s canopy to allow for more light and air circulation. This promotes tree health and increases fruit size and quality. Gently wedge these lightweight, sturdy plastic limb spreaders between a tree’s young, pliable branches and its trunk to encourage wider, stronger branch angles (about 45 degrees from vertical). A great investment — reuse year after year! We suggest using 6" and 9" spreaders for stone fruit trees like cherries, peaches, and plums and 9" and 12" spreaders for fruit trees like apples and pears.

Questions & Answers
Depends on the tree but I usually leave the limb spreader in place from early spring until I prune in the winter. I then remove them and if I'm happy with where it stays I reuse on some new young trees. I get several years use usually.
These limb spreaders are made in the USA (Traverse City, MI).
You'll prune columnar apple trees to a “Central Leader” shape just like regular apple trees.
For which variety?
I leave them on through the winter. After a couple of seasons I find the limbs have achieved the desired spread and stay put.
They do pierce the bark. I also wondered if they would hurt the tree but after 2 years my trees are alive. The do not stick in far and a wind storm can blow the branch and the spreader will fall to the ground. I just put it back.
I have used pretty much one pack per apple tree and half to 3/4 pack for my pear tree. You need to look at each tree to see how many limbs you want to "move" and calculate from there.
Im sorry we do not have access to inventory counts. Please send an email to info@starkbros and someone can assist you with this.
The same variety cannot pollinate itself. You will need another apple variety with a similar bloom time in order for good pollination to occur. Some Pollinators are listed on the product page

These spreaders work very well and being plastic, are not expected to deteriorate over time. With a short spike in the center, the spreaders seem to cover the functions of both V-notch and spike…
more apples- stronger branches
Have used these limb spreaders for years and found them to be the best as they don't damage the bark by continuous rubbing as do the other types.
I have lots of fruit trees.
