I have a Hensens Cherry bush not doing to well; barely passed the truck test, so i asked what I could do to possibly save it, instead of ripping it out, and replanting a new one. I was told by Stark help and a part-time landscaper that adding a fertilizer high in Nitrogen would promote growth in fruit bearing bushes and tees.

Is this the right fertilizer for a mature peach tree? When we planted our Stark Bro peach tree years ago, we had a box of fertilizer we used yearly. Used it all up last year and no longer have the box...
Joni M on Mar 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes - use in the early spring around bearing trees (not young ones) by spreading around the drip line. See the package instructions for amount which varies with trunk diameter.
This will be the second growing season for the orchard-in-a-box order we placed last year. We initially used TrePrep with great results. Should we continue to use that or shift to this now that they are somewhat established? My concern is that this is only nitrogen and I'd prefer to use something that was a multi-purpose product. Will this be enough or should I just stick with TrePrep?
Michael on Mar 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'd stick with the Tre-Pep for now. It's more well-rounded for young trees. Once the trees all hit their fruit-bearing years (approximately their third year in the ground), they will take more nitrogen from the soil to support their fruit production cycle and then you may want to consider using Orchard Fertilizer to provide nitrogen (as needed).
How many cups approximately is 1/4 pound of this product?
David A on Apr 29, 2017
If I use this product do I have to use calcum or potassium in addition, this will be the second year for my orchard?
Ali ha on Apr 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I only used the fertilizer, but my main goal was to produce a lot of greenery in my apple trees since they were growing slow.
How to apply?
Otis W on Apr 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have only applied once since my purchase and had followed instructions by sprinkling on the ground and did so just hours before a gentle rain fell which appeared to dissolve the fertilizer. My trees are 3 years old and still relatively small but they all have bloomed this year and had not before but as I said, they are 3 years old and was hoping they would bloom this year. I will continue to use this product and monitor results but so far so good. Just sprinkled on ground approx. diameter of total tree width (didn't go any further than the branch width), grass is sure growing well around trees!
Will it hurt anything if I apply it a little late? Like right as new growth is starting?
NickD on Apr 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, it shouldn't hurt anything to apply this fertilizer once new growth has started emerging. Just follow the label and be sure not to make the application after July 1.

Jim O on Mar 27, 2020

Ramesh on Feb 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It's just nitrogen granules (derived from urea), but it's not composed of organic matter like leaves or grass cuttings.
can you use on peach trees?
Alice B on Apr 5, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes, according to Stark Bros. it should be used on trees 3 years or older. Easy to apply and it dissolves with the next rain and penetrates the soil. There are some good videos on the subject on the Stark Bros. website.
I have a 10 /12 year old Stella cherry tree what kind of fertilizer should I use to promote good cherries ?
Estella M S on Nov 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi, Estella. You are on the right page. Stark Orchard Fertilizer is for older trees like yours. It's also a good idea to do a soil test to see if the pH is still within a good range (between 6.0 and 6.5) and to see if any micronutrients are missing.

What fertilizer is best for pecan trees?
Debbie S on Sep 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I???m not quite sure about but trees, but the general orchard fertilizer was recommended by some of my friends who are also into small sized orchards. So far for my experience I would say it definitely helped my dwarf apple trees as well as my peach, plum and fig trees. They are all doing well. This year I???ve picked peaches, figs and Granny Smith apples. Next season I expect all my trees will be bearing fruit thanks with the help of the orchard fertilizer. I am sure it???ll work well with nut trees too. I am John L. Brooklyn NY
Can this be used on non-fruit bearing trees as well. We have what was called an English Oak as well as several fruit trees, so wonder if the same fertilizer will work for both types? Thank you.
knittens on May 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I dont know about other trees, but I didn't noticed that the grass grew greener and bigger around the tree where I put the fertilizer

We bought a white peach tree from Stark Brothers about 20 years ago. It bears wonderful mouth watering peaches for a long time, but it is declining now. Some branches have died, and we have serious problem with brown rot. What should we do? Can we plant a new tree in the same spot?
Ying Z on Oct 6, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Think about the type of care (or lack of care) you provided for your peach tree and then make a determination as to why brown rot occurred and solutions for brown rot. Because, this understanding can benefit you with your decision.
is it to late to fertilize after blossoms fall of ?
Ake O on Jun 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You should fertilize a fruit tree before the start to bud out. If you fertilize now you will spur a lot of growth that may be damaged if you have an early frost. This is great fertilizer, I use it on all my fruit trees, but would not do it this late.
I have Hazelnut trees that have produced catkins for the first time this year. Is this a good fertilizer for them?
Elizabeth on Mar 7, 2021

Is this good for pre bearing cherry and dwarf cherry trees?
GL K on Jan 19, 2021
BEST ANSWER: We appreciate you reaching out to us. You can use this but we recommend our Tre-pep fertilizer This concentrated 22-24-12 tree and plant food is the best way to ensure successful growth for nearly every plant in your yard or garden. Trees bear sooner, and plants are more lush when you start them off right.

I have two apple trees that are about 8 and three that are 4 years old.
the two oldest trees have not produced any apples in the last two years even though I have been using fertilizer. Should i trim and if so how much ?
Douglas Stark
Rusty on Oct 24, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. First, do a soil test to check the pH (it should be between 5.5 - 6.5 for apple trees) and see which nutrients it might be missing. Then fertilize accordingly. Is the tree getting at least 6 hours of full sun? Are your trees compatible pollinators, or the same variety? If the latter, that's why you're not getting a crop. There are other reasons a tree might not be bearing fruit as you expect. This article details some basic fruit tree requirements for fruit production.

My peaches on my 3 year old peach tree have sticky clear secretions on the fruit. There???s also some sticky stuff on the base of the trunk. I sprayed dormant spray early this spring . Any suggestions of how to treat this ? Thanks
Peg H on Aug 6, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Peach trees can suffer from a number of problems, from the insects known as borers to peach tree curl, a fungal disease. But if you spot something jelly-like on your tree, it's probably honeydew, the substance secreted by aphids. Below is a list of all Natural control to help.
Bonide?? All Seasons?? Horticultural & Dormant Spray Oil
Bonide?? Insecticidal Soap
Bonide?? Citrus, Fruit & Nut Orchard Spray
Bonide?? Neem Oil
Monterey Fruit Tree Spray Plus
Monterey Horticultural Oil
Can I use the fertilizer now? In Mid-July? And can I also place liquid Calcium around tree during this time?
Brandi D on Jul 10, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I would NOT use fertilizer this time of year. Fertilizer should be applied in the spring before June 15rh. Never fertilize late summer Fall or winter. You can use calcium Spring Summer & fall. Water soluble Gypsum is best. Mix Gypsum in a 5 gallon bucket of rain water or reverse osmosis water and stir. Pour in the soil around the base of the tree. Do this once a month Spring, Summer and fall.
peach tree approximately 4 yrs. old leaves are falling off turning yellow year before lasr loaded with peaches but were no good brown in the middle, last year no fruit at all, this year only 4-5 peaches no sign of leave curl or leave insects i used horticultural all season oil what is wrong?
Doris S on Jul 6, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Sounds like it could possibly be a soil issue and/or fungus related issue. Doing a soil analysis could give you some answers as to a solution. Check for soil compaction/drainage issues. Monitor how deep water is going into the soil. Sometimes when soil is depleted in certain nutrients the plant cannot use/find the minerals it needs.

Janet K on Apr 22, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Spring time is the best time to start fertilization, however it is never too late to start. I have fruit trees and we fertilize every 2 weeks or so until July 1. Good luck and happy farming
I have my trees in my yard with a small circle around them without grass. I have ducks that run loose and eat grass and forage. Will this be toxic to my ducks?
Sonia C on Apr 4, 2020

Stark Orchard Fertilizer: Easy; Effective; Complete
This Spring, 2016, I used Stark Orchard Fertilizer on my 34 fruit trees purchased from Stark from 2012 till 2015. After having read many excellent sites describing the use of fertilizer on fruit trees, I was concerned that overzealous use of fertilizer would cause extreme growth and invite even more codling moths. However, the Stark Orchard Fertilizer bag gave clear instructions on how much to use per size of tree and previous growth. It's mid-season now, and all the various types of fruit trees seem to have grown beautifully, healthily, and not too much. Thanks Stark, for your well-tested and researched fertilizer product. Dr. RS
