Questions & Answers
I live in Pennsylvania. The summers are hot (90•) the winters are cold (10•). I’ve had them 2 years and they are thriving. As long as I can keep the deer from eating them.
I live in Guymon, OK (north of Amarillo) in zone 6B. My first year planting both gooseberries and jostaberries and currants was a learning experience. While they all started out fine, I lost several (I think) due to the mid-summer heat and hot, dry wind we get here. My second year planting them, I moved them into a part/sun shaded, somewhat protected location with much better results. No casualties and all came through the winter with flying colors. Likewise with some blueberry varieties. I was quite surprised by how well most blueberry varieties did here (quite unexpected) but several varieties (again) baked by the end of the summer. Same solution. worked for me there too..
I'm growing these in the high desert of southeast Idaho with no issues. Im a lot further north, but I would imagine the high desert temperature swings from day to night still apply. on the second year growth I harvested 3-4 gallons of berries. They seem to be doing very well and take minimal care.
No these have the classic gooseberry thorns. I haven’t found a thornless gooseberry yet
Both gooseberry plants in this collection are self-pollinating, but having them both will boost their production, giving you more and larger fruit.
Yes they have thorns, but everything that helps keep the deer from eating them before I can is welcome.

I planted the Invicta Gooseberries 2 and 3 years ago in plastic half whiskey barrel planters (Zone 4B.) We harvested enough gooseberries to make 12 quarter pint jars of delicious jelly. (See the Amy…
