Why did you choose this?

I remember Russet apples from when I was a child. The flavor was very unique. I'm hoping this tree will bear the kind of apples I remember. This is actually the second Golden Russet I have ordered…

Hello will a Liberty and or a freedom work as cross pollinator?

Yes they should all pollinate tofether to bear fruit as the bloom times are similar.

I have a Macintosh would the golden russet be a good pollinator?
Do you have dwarfs sizes . I have little room in my yard?

The Golden Russet Apple is an early-mid season bloomer and so is the McInstosh - so these two should work well together for pollination. Currently, this item is out of stock.

When will it bear fruit ?

It depends on the growing conditions and how quickly the tree gets established. With ideal conditions, (good soil, plenty of sun, regular watering and fertilizer) tree may fruit in as little as two years after planting. Even so, some trees still take a little longer. My experience in the Northeast USA has been 2-4 years before a tree begins fruiting.

Can I plant this tree in June in a 5B/6A zone? If so, what are the risks?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. Because weather and soil conditions vary so much from year to year and even within your zone, it's best to think of your planting time as a range of favorable conditions instead of an exact time.

You can plant new plants and trees:
1) when the ground is not frozen.
2) when daytime temperatures are above freezing (32ºF) and below 90ºF.
3) when extreme weather (blizzard, hail, torrential rain, etc.) is not in the forecast. Be sure to keep plants watered if you're transplanting in warm and/or dry weather.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!

Is this variety cedar apple rust resistant?

No this is not resistant to any disease.

I have crap apple trees will the russet apple still pollinate ?

Yes it should as crab apples are good pollinators.

can you graft another apple tree on the golden russett for me if I buy the Golden Russett?

I am sorry we do not provide that service.

would you ever graft this on a standard rootstock?? That would be the size I would need because of deers.

Hi Ken, We appreciate you reaching out to us. I found that we've only offered dwarf and semi-dwarf on this variety. I'm not sure why standard has not been offered before. But fencing and deer repellants can help protect your trees from deer.

I have a Macintosh would the golden russet be a good pollinator?

The Golden Russet Apple is an early-mid season bloomer and so is the McInstosh - so these two should work well together for pollination.

What rootstock is it on?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. We use several different rootstocks, depending upon the desired result and what is available. For that reason, we're unable to guarantee a specific rootstock.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!

Super beautiful Russet apple tree!
This is my favorite tree in the whole garden! It is so symmetrical and perfect, it almost looks artificial! I have had a russet apple tree on my radar for over 20 years now and finally, I have one, thanks to Starks!

Celebrating Annie "Appleseed" Jessup.
I ordered this variety because of its descent from the work of Annie "Appleseed" Jessup in the 1700s. A Quaker, she was a member of the same Friends Meeting in North Carolina that I am a member of. The tree arrived perfectly pruned, and it is now thriving in our mini-orchard along with another of Annie's varieties.

A Good Quality Supreme
Shipment was fast. Root size is good. Came with six branches. Good size trunk from bottom to top. This is consider a quality Supreme even though it did came with a few minor damage from harvest or shipment. Now, I just have to wait and see if the tree can perform great within 1 year. This not my 1st tree from Starkbro's. I grew apples, pears, pomegranates, grapes, loquats, grapefruit and more from seeds. I have a green thumb and know how to take care of trees, including bare rooted trees.

Success
Arrived on time. Well packaged. We had a hard freeze followed by heavy rains that kept me from planting right away. I dampened the root ball after a week and then remembered that I had a trash can full of damp potting soil. I took the tree out of the bag and immersed the roots in the can of soil for another week - still cold weather. Two weeks (or more) after it arrived I was finally able to dig a hole in soil and not mud. The tree leafed out and is putting small branches and doing great.

It's not a honeycrisp!
Even though I ordered a honeycrisp, and the tree was tagged as such, i am not dissappointed at all that it isnt producing honeycrisp apples. These russets are so tastey! I love them. At least that what i think they are, russets. They're comparable to the pic on the site . This is the 1st year that they have produced and i got a bushel. I made applesauce last night. So yummy. Cant wait to do a pie next. Oh, i still want a honeycrips tree though lol.
