About the Snapp Stayman Apple

The Snapp Stayman Apple tree is an improved strain of the antique Stayman, which apples are known for their beautiful, blushed-coloring and excellent eating quality and culinary uses. Snapp was discovered in the orchards of Alfred Snapp of Winchester, Virginia when he noticed a tree with brighter colored fruit and a spurring growth habit. This productive tree was a strain of the Red Stayman and Snapp became the most highly colored strain of Stayman of all.

The distinctive, sweet-tart flavor, snappy bite, and satisfying, firm texture is the same as the classic Stayman apple trees that were originally discovered by Dr. Stayman in 1866. Popular at U-pick orchards, this heirloom is great for eating fresh, making applesauce, apple butter, and other baking possibilities. Stayman apples are known to store well.

Growing the Snapp Stayman Apple Tree

Snapp Stayman is much like its parent, Red Stayman, which has little to no major pest and disease concerns. These trees are tolerant to many soil types and are considered cold-hardy.

Like other Stayman Apple tree varieties, the pollen of Snapp is sterile and it cannot pollinate other apple trees. It requires at least two different apple varieties nearby to be fruitful. Make room for the Snapp Stayman Apple tree in your orchard and you’ll be blessed with some of the best-tasting apples around!

Most Productive Apple tree and resistant to Japanese Beetles and CAR.
My Snapp Stayman Tree has been the most productive tree in my 80-apple orchard the last two years. For last 20 years, I planted 10 different apple trees every year and I planted the Snapp Stayman 10 years ago, so it is in the middle age of my trees. It has thrived and was most productive. It produces big apples that I use to make apple juice and frozen apple slices for my freezer. It has survived the Japanese beetle attacks over last 10 years, it is not affected by Cedar Apple Rust that is common in my orchard. I fenced it to protect from animals. I am ordering a second tree this year because it is reasonably priced.

Good size tree
Good size tree. Strong anchor root system. Leafed out and able to grow new branches. It did not came with any branches. Our weather is hot and shade cloth was provided to help. In addition, mulching the base. The shade cloth is now off and the tree is able to handle the late August temp, even if it reached 100 degree.
